Check out what British soldiers ate during The Second Boer Conflict of 1899-1902 when in a last ditch effort ! This is the second oldest thing I’ve ever eaten (Oldest was that Hardtack) and much unexpected considering this MRE’s condition. It was pretty rough – and the smell when cooking the dried beef (Pretty much a pemmican) is nearly indescribable. It was quite the experience. And for old rations up next we will see the next generation in Emergency Rations – (1918). This is pioneering in food technology – the beef was still edible. It was a pulverized, slow cooked, dried, and compressed meat by-product bar. Way ahead of it’s time – this was food tech that was adopted by the U.S. Quartermaster Corps of Sustenance and Natick Food Labs decades later.
An upgrade from our USMC c-rats and not as old!
That’s kind of like the Kobe Steak I had last night. Only different.
Hell, I gave away Halloween candy this year that was older then that….I gave away some Tootsie Rolls that only used to be only known as Rolls….
“This is the second oldest thing I’ve ever eaten…”
(Insert vulgar Ruth Bader Ginsberg joke here)
It looks like it had already been eaten.
No Vietvet…YOU insert it…..
@willysgoatgruff (at 12:26 PM): Were they from the Al Jolson era (“Toot, Toot, Tootsie, goodbye…”)?
@willysgoatgruff (at 12:30 PM): I wouldn’t know any – I’m much too innocent for things like that. But there are some other commenters here who might…
😉
Try it?
That’s party food.
I got an 8-pack of Bar-S Dogs and a tabletop gas grill.
What are we drinking?
Hope everyone is enjoying Montana with Big Sky backdrops
I wouldn’t eat that…it would be irrational.

Spent some time wit Recon; they had MRE in ’67! Needed lots of water tp make em; but much smaller+ lighter than C. Rats”
I’ve followed Steve1989 MRE reviews for a while and enjoy watching this kid sample expired and new stuff. There are many like him on the tube but he is the original best.
