American Thinker:
In a policy move that’s going to trigger a thousand lawsuits and protests, the Trump administration has begun to send letters demanding $500,000 fines from illegal immigrants who thumb their noses at their federal deportation orders.
Here’s The Independent’s outraged report:
Donald Trump’s White House has sent notices of fines totalling nearly $500,000 (£396,715) to some undocumented immigrants in recent weeks, as the federal government prepares to conduct sweeping immigration raids nationwide after the 4 July holiday.
Letters notifying undocumented immigrants of the administration’s intention were obtained by NPR, which included copies of the statements in a report published on Tuesday afternoon.
The US Department of Homeland Security stated the fines were for “failing to depart the US as previously agreed” and appeared to target undocumented immigrants who “willfully refuse to meet the obligations of an order issued by the department of justice’s executive office for immigration review,” the outlet reported.
It is harsh, possibly too harsh, meaning that many illegals may just ignore the whole matter since they’re never going to come in contact with $500,000 anytime in their working lives. But it does target some illegals where it matters, through their actual motivations for coming here — which is the prospect of making a lot of money in the states, often to remit home. For them, mere money is their American dream, not loyalty to the United States or its system of rule of law. If the feds can take that, or maybe a home, from those who’ve been ordered deported, maybe it’s cheaper to go, and perhaps consider coming here legally, instead. It isn’t a perfect solution, given that the people who would be most affected are those who’ve made money by creating value in the economy, (not the welfare class) but it might be the only way to reinstall respect for rule of law if the leftists can’t snap it away through the courts. read more
How about allowing bounty hunters for 10%?
You mean their EBT cards won’t cover the fines?
Why such a small amount?
Enforced by SWAT Teams at 2 a.m. If they can send SWAT to collect a gas bill, why not.
Here is a chance for our Capitalist system to shine.
Have UPS start an ‘Outward Bound’ shipping service.
Have Gin Blossom’s bounty hunters dart them like bears, then deliver them to an ‘Outward Bound’ depot (conveniently located everywhere).
They set up a hydration IV, wrap them in a diaper, bubble wrap them and overnight them to country of origin.
Postage due.
Lazlo — You’ve actually hit on something that Gingrich talked about many times in his many speeches: Which companies have the best records for finding the recipient of packages? Freight companies like UPS live and die for their on-time, accurate delivery stats. For the cost of ten bucks — a minuscule amount compared to the cost of expensive gov’t tracking — send a package/letter requiring the recipient’s signature. Bingo!
Reduce the incentive to come here. Jail time for the illegal = no opportunity to earn money. Make it a 3 month sentence, but also a felony. Hence, no future citizenship or right to vote. The employers get a huge fine + 90 days as well. The employers will stop ASAP and the job market for illegals will dry up.
Whatever happened to the idea of monitoring and taxing their remittances to Mexico via Western Union, etc? That seemed easy enough to do.
If they are sending the letters to them, then that means they know where they are, right? Go arrest the MFers, and deliver them to Mexico.
How many pesos is that?
Put the money in a trust that can’t be pilfered by congress and give $500k as a reward to any legal citizen that provides info that leads to arrest and deportation of an illegal.
I think we need to bump up those deportations to today, so we can truly celebrate our independence.
Great! Now use the fines to attach their free gubbmint
handout money like Social Security and tax “refunds” etc..
that comes to:
$500,00 = 9,501,050 pesos and/or 9,501.05 pesos a day fine
