BOGOTA, May 16 (UPI) — Colombian police seized more than 8.5 tons of cocaine during recent operations targeting the Clan Úsuga, one of the South American country’s most powerful drug gangs.

The cocaine seizure in the town of Turbo in Colombia’s Antioquia state is being considered the largest drug bust in Colombian history. Several weapons were seized and at least four men were arrested, including one — identified as “Micolta” — who is charged with extortion and ordering killings.  more

  1. Eight-and-a-half TONS of blow!!?? DAY-UM!!
How do you destroy that much powder? Rip open the bundles and throw it in the ocean? Think of the fish! Or the people at the beach when the tide comes in the next day!

  2. So I read somewhere the US uses about 300 tons of cocaine a year. So this “huge” bust disrupts the supply for what 1-2 weeks?

I am sure there are going to be some pretty pissed off Columbians but this is hardly a huge victory in the war on drugs

  3. I can picture the people in charge saying something like

“there’s over ten tons of cocaine here Generalissimo”

    followed by the Generalissimo’s reply

“that’s outstanding Major, your mane will be featured prominently in the report to El Presidente about this 8.5 ton cocaine seizure, the biggest in Columbia’s history. You’ll get a promotion I’m sure”
