The USS Somerset is named for the southwestern Pennsylvania county where Flight 93 crashed. With its 684-foot starboard side serving as the backdrop, the amphibious transport dock warship was formally commissioned in front of more than 5,000 spectators at Penn’s Landing.

The Somerset is the third ship to be named in honor of 9/11 victims, joining the USS New York and USS Arlington, which honor those killed in the World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon during the attacks.

This was dedicated 10 minutes from my house. Did I hear a damn thing about beforehand on the telly, in the paper, or on the radio so that I can go down and see it? No. Wtf?

It could have crashed in “intercourse PA” so we have that going for us.
It’s also the same name from the British Man-O-War which, on 4/18/1775, kicked off the infamous ride of Paul Revere. Signaling the arrival of King George’s army at Charlestown.
My old Air Force buddy lives four miles away from the crash site. I going to go see him when all the snow melts. Can’t wait.
