Well, duh. Most of that is never read by anyone. The only reason it’s written in the first place is some the author can list it on his CV.

My first and only thought is “no sh*t.”
Once you also exclude the author’s mother, the percentage drops to less than 1% read.
I knew a Post-Doc who spent a week debunking a Professor’s paper, and when the Post-Doc confronted the Professor with it, the Professor said: “I published that nearly 6 weeks ago … why are you wasting your time on that?”
