Gone In 60 Seconds

NEWSER– A pastor’s wife says a hearse was stolen from outside a Southern California church ahead of funeral services with a casket inside. The Los Angeles Times reports that the hearse was idling outside Ebenezer Baptist Church in South Los Angeles while the funeral director arranged flowers for Saturday morning services yesterday for 19-year-old Jonté Lee Reed. Shirley Little, the pastor’s wife, says the director called ministry friends for help when he saw the hearse was missing. Little says family members driving to the funeral had been notified and stopped the hearse four blocks from the church.

A hearse is seen in this file photo.

  1. Everybody knows that you don’t leave the keys in anything out there. Especially that close to Slauson ave. And the higher the number of the east/west street names, the worse it gets. I think that’s down around 50th street. Shithole.

  2. Hearses should be equipped with anti theft devices. If stolen
a remote will activate a mechanical arm in the back which starts tapping on the wall behind the driver’s head and a voice moans “let me out”

  3. BFH, there was a book written many years ago by Vancouver’s Coroner called “How Come I’m Dead,” one of the stories was about a prank they played on a new officer. They had one officer in a body bag and told the rookie to wheel him to the morgue in the basement. As soon as they got there, the officer in the bag sat-up. The rookie was Maori and he immediately clubbed the “body” with his billy club.
