Why Jeb’s Not Catching Fire

And Probably Never Will.

CFIF- The good news for Jeb Bush is that he’s the perfect candidate for the Republican presidential nomination. The bad news is that he’s the perfect candidate in the year 2000.

That’s the counterfactual scenario that most Bush-watchers have spun over the years. Had Jeb won the 1994 race in which he first pursued Florida’s governorship, the theory goes, it would have been him rather than his older brother who became the GOP’s standard-bearer in 2000. Instead, Jeb narrowly lost the ’94 race to Democrat Lawton Chiles, George W. won his contest in Texas in the same year and the younger sibling looked on six years later as his brother ascended to the White House.

That historical twist may have permanently thwarted Jeb’s White House aspirations. It’s not just that the American people are inherently resistant to the dynastic impulse that would see three consecutive members of the Bush family serve as Republican presidents. It’s also that the legacy of Jeb’s family has ineluctably changed the dynamics within the GOP. more

  1. 2006 and 2008 were benchmark elections. Not because voters chose Dems but because they rejected the establishment GOP, which had increased the size of the federal government while holding the House, Senate and presidency. Unfortunately the establishment was able to game the 2012 nomination and put in the only Republican in this country who was an apologist for government-run healthcare. But I don’t think they will be able to do that this time. I sure hope not.

  2. The Enemy of the GOP and America is Karl Rove…he needs to go. Once that snake is removed permanently, we can build for the future. He is the tacky that holds the misled GOP leadership together. Boehner and McConnell will follow Rove..

  3. He’s a milquetoast socialist. Has no convictions, no foundational beliefs, no spine, no point.

He knows it … and we know it.

    Like the song says:

    “Go away, little girl …
    Go away, little girl …”

  4. Over the last 4 weeks I have received emails from Karl Rove, Jeb Bush, & G W Bush asking me to support Jeb. I clicked “unsubscribe” to each one.

Normally I just delete these kinds of emails. Maybe getting the notice to unsubscribe will be noticed as a ” no thanks” message more than just ignoring their email.

  5. Each of Jeb’s 3 adult children have had run-ins with the law and his wife tried to smuggle in $20,000 worth of clothes bought in Paris.

This does not strike me as the family of a well-grounded man.
