Halstead opted her children out of the program and to instead continue using a PIN number. But she says her youngest daughter was told she had to participate.
“Marissa said, had she not they weren’t going to give her lunch,” according to the mother. “They’re six and eight (years old.) They don’t need their fingerprint stored.” MORE

“The school told the youngest daughter she had to participate”. Bullshit! These bullies should be talking to the parents, not the child. They are taught to respect their teachers, then the teachers tell them they have to do something against their parents wishes. I can only imagine their fear of doing the wrong thing. I’m glad my child is grown, because I’m sure my meeting with these people would not end well.
This is just plain creepy.
Just why is the state feeding any kids, not thier job.
I remember an optional school fingerprinting program when my kids were little, they said it would help to find them if they ever got lost. I told them to go to hell, my kids don’t get lost and they are not going to be treated like criminals.
Mind your own fucking business!
These mom’s have simply got to start packing lunch for their children.
Seriously.
So they have to be fingerprinted in order to eat the nasty Michelle Obama lunches? Makes sense.
if she really loved her children they would have never stepped foot inside a government indoctrination center let alone have them feed her for the parent.
the time to opt out was before they enrolled.
homeschool!
The damn school didn’t fingerprint my kids, they had the day cockers, I mean cops come in and do it!
I was outraged at the time but too busy to do anything about it. They did it under the meet a cop and fireman day thing, fingerprinted the entire 2nd grade, not just the poor kids.
Fingerprints are fingerprints, no matter how they’re digitized and algorithm’d and stored. Wrong, just wrong, ESPECIALLY without the parents’ permission.
And as for depending on Teh FedGub to feed EVERYONE a FREE lunch.. . .??? G—–d, where does one begin, in order to disabuse these benighted fools on all sides of their foolish notions? Let’s follow the KISS principle (Keep It Simple for teh Stoopid). Yes, you may be enjoying the largess of Teh FedGub for now (but where did that money come from? whose pockets were picked?), but what happens when Teh FedGub imposes new strings to the program, maybe some that you (or your successor) aren’t willing to obey? Or possibly Teh FedGub decides to pull the plug and stop the flow on all that “FREE” lunch money? What then? Are you now willing to pay for the entire lunch program out of your own school budget pocket?
“The company offering the technology, Horizon Software, disputes Halstead’s concerns.
“It’s basically storing a template that’s a numerical representation of the individual finger print,” according to company vice president Amy Huff. “What’s stored in the system is simply a series of zeros and ones that based on an algorithm of different points on a student’s finger.””
Is a brazen attempt to baffle with bullshit as I’ve seen that hasn’t come straight out of preezy’s administration. Horizon Software must have been taken notes.
And yeah, it’s creepy. I had to explain to someone who didn’t understand my objection to getting printed to cash a check; fingerprints are for the bad guys and this ain’t Minority Report. And I’ll just go out of my way to get to my own bank, TYVM. A child doesn’t even begin to have the concept of wrong on this.
