It’s National Dog Week!

national dog week

EntirelyPets– National Dog Week was founded in 1928 by Captain Will Judy, a
former publisher of Dog World Magazine and a dog judge. He
created National Dog Week to educate all dog owners in their
responsibilities to their pets and to their communities. The origin
of “man’s best friend” is alleged to have come from a closing
argument given by Sen. George Graham Vest. Vest was representing
a man whose dog was shot and killed by a neighbor.
In his closing statement, Vest gave what has become the
famous “Tribute to the American Dog.” The speech was so
powerful that it won the case. Here is an excerpt from this
famous speech that truly shows how much a
dog means to his owner,

“The one absolutely unselfish friend that man can
have in this selfish world,
the one that never
deserts him, the one that never proves
ungrateful or treacherous is his dog.”

Definitely take the time out this week to give
your dog the treatment that they deserve.

  1. Was it the opening scene of “Lady and the Tramp? —
“Josh Billings — ‘In the whole history of the world there is but one thing that money cannot buy…to wit–the wag of a dog’s tail.’

Every week is dog week around here.

  2. The more people I meet, the more I love my dogs- said somebody I don’t remember.

I’m on Rottweiler adoption #3; they are just the best. I hope to raise one from a pup someday, but given my adopted guys, I fear I can’t do the job as well…

  3. Lazlo has Angus, the Aussie Shepard, just six months old.
This morning I was flat on my back in the road because he was distracted and bored into me from behind at top speed.
Lazlo never had kids, I am told that a part of parenting is wanting to hug them and strangle them at the same time.
I could see he felt somewhat bad about it.
I wanted to hug him for that.
The fact that the bastard grinned at me the whole time I was getting up made me want to boot him in the ass.
I’m going to adopt the strategy my stepfather had.
I’m going to leave brochures for Military School on the coffee table.

  4. I took my young companion, Penny, to the Cades Cove loop in the Smoky Mountain N.P. on Saturday afternoon. She stood on my lap and hung her head out the window the entire 11 miles. Slow driving speed and constantly changing scenery. She loved every minute of it. We shared a burger, sweet potato fries and a Vanilla malt at the Burgermeister in Townsend also. Like Bobbie TRD’s house, every week is dog week, here in the Foot Hills of the Smokys.

  5. Happy Dog Week from Rocky, MacDuff and Lily Blanca, our three “river dogs.” This is also a good time to remember those that are no longer with us: Jamie, Maggie, Rags, Callie, and Molly. They were all our babies and best friends.

    Dogs rule!
