‘Fire hose’ of moisture slams South Carolina; 12 killed

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — People across South Carolina got an object lesson Monday in how you can dodge a hurricane and still get hammered.

Authorities struggled to get water to communities swamped by it, and with waterlogged dams overflowing, bridges collapsing, hundreds of roads inundated and floodwaters rolling down to the coast, the state was anything but done with this disaster.

“This is a Hugo-level event,” said Maj. Gen. Robert Livingston, head of the South Carolina National Guard, referring to the September 1989 hurricane that devastated Charleston. “We didn’t see this level of erosion in Hugo. … This water doesn’t fool around.”  more here

  1. Crazy Uncle Joe doesn’t live there much, he lives at his house so he can charge the SS for the privilege of guarding him and let him swim nude in front of the female SS.

  2. Yeah, I’m in it. Nothing like down in SC, I’m in NC about 150 miles north of the worst of it. Up here we got over a foot of rain and 5+feet of extra tide and gale winds. No major flooding or widespread damage up here, just a lot of widespread minor flooding and minor damage. SC looks like NC did after Hurricane Floyd in ’99…water up to the roofs on many buildings. Very sad. The sun is supposed to come out today and conditions starting to improve.

  3. Well Bison, thanks for sharing. I hope you and yours never have to experience anything like it. You might as well have said, ” we were in Benghazi and had four people killed. It happens when you operate where terrorists come by.”

  4. Dear Californ-ya,

You now know where your rain went. Straighten up, get rid of moonbeam, repent and start acting like Americans, and we’ll send back your rain. Yes, we have a weather machine.

    Sincerely,
    The Koch Brothers
