Two students at the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater were publicly, officially branded as “racist” in a campus-wide post because the school’s chancellor mistook their exfoliation masks for blackface. The controversy all started when the students posted a Snapchat photo of themselves wearing face masks in the dorms. Seeing as skincare is widely accepted as an uncontroversial activity, they probably thought nothing of it —but Chancellor Beverly Kopper rushed to interpret it as blackface

These are dudes, or at least I think they are. Maybe they are into exfoliation, but I don’t think so – I think they intended to take a photo in blackface while still having an out. If so, this was a brilliant move, with the added bonus of embarrassing the chancellor.

The stupidest part, if you read the whole story, is that even though it has been recognized that they were performing skin care and had no racist intent, the pair were still required to “…meet with the Black Student Union…” and “…record an apology.” First off, why is there a ‘Black Student Union’? Shouldn’t there just be a ‘Student Union’? Second, if the pair did NOTHING wrong, and it has been recognized they did NOTHING WRONG, why in Hell were they still forced to APOLOGIZE?!?!? Apologize for what?? That the University President is too stupid to live? That the University to so racist it requires the Blacks to have their own ‘Black Student Union’? What the Hell did they need to apologize for?? They are the ones owed an apology, by the University President, the black student body, and anyone else who jumped to the wrong conclusion without ample evidence.
