FOX Sports: Think we found the perfect car to replace that Dodge Challenger Sterling Archer loved so much.

The Firebird Trans Am is back, with a limited Bandit edition of the car made famous by the “Smokey and the Bandit” movies, all 77 signed by the star himself, Burt Reynolds.

While Pontiac, which produced the Trans Am from 1967 to 2002, ceased production in 2009, the company Trans Am Depot licensed the name and logo from GM in order to produce custom Trans Ams from rebuilt Chevy Camaros. And the results are pretty awesome.  more

  1. All-American car — all-American actor. Of course Reynolds is a Palm Beach homie. His dad was police chief of Jupiter, FL., 25 mi. south of Fur’s new home.

  2. Great story Willy. lol. That would be a thrill!

I got to work on the Rockford Files Pontiac back in the 70s. There were three of those cars and one set of legal license plates that had to be switched every time they went from stunt car to camera car to whatever the other car was. I got to test drive the stunt car down Ventura blvd. 🙂 No boobies though.

  3. Unruly, I watched Rockford Files last night on MeTV.
That is so cool you worked on that show.

He drove it up a car carrier in this episode.
He was always pretty hard on the vehicle.

Me, my first car was a 77 Camaro so I always loved that era of sports cars.

  4. Loco, I didn’t work on the show, I worked at a garage in Studio City that did a lot of business with the studios.

Before that, just before I turned 21, they filmed the Rockford Files episode “The Trees, the Bees and T.T. Flowers: Part 2” just down the street from my first apartment. The wife talked Garner into taking a picture holding our infant daughter. He was a very likeable guy. That was the only time I ever met him. Said he had a daughter the same age. I still have the picture.

I loved the Cameros! That movie Firebird was tricked out, much better than the stock Pontiacs. Skid plates and beefed up suspension, modified engine, even the park brake was custom designed for burnouts. The studio engineers were among the best, and they had the money to do whatever they wanted.
