A Russian special forces officer is being hailed as a hero after calling an air strike on himself when he ISIS forces surrounded him.
According to The Mirror, the officer was directing Russian airstrikes at Islamic State targets near the ancient city of Palmyra in Syria.

That’s why your hole needed to be extra deep when you were way out in Injun country, because you never knew when Mother Earth and the Marine (or Army) Red Legs might be your salvation. When out of options, it’s better to call down that pillar of fire and kill the bad guys out in the open, and maybe you or some of your comrades, than wait for them to kill you in your hole. One way, you had a 100% chance of death/capture, and the other option gave you about a 10%-20% chance of getting out alive.
