HIROSHIMA, Japan (AP) — Barack Obama on Friday paid tribute to the 140,000 people killed by the world’s first atomic bomb attack and sought to bring global attention to his unfulfilled vision of a world without nuclear weapons, as he became the first sitting U.S. president to visit Hiroshima.

“Death fell from the sky and the world was changed,” Obama said, after laying a wreath, closing his eyes and briefly bowing his head before an arched monument in Hiroshima’s Peace Memorial Park that honors those killed on Aug. 6, 1945, when U.S. forces dropped the bomb that ushered in the nuclear age. The bombing, Obama said, “demonstrated that mankind possessed the means to destroy itself.”

Obama did not apologize, instead offering, in a carefully choreographed display, a simple reflection on the horrors of war and his hope the horror of Hiroshima could spark a “moral awakening.”  more

  7. What in the world was he talking about? He has a new O’pologist speech writer. Crafted with phrases to apologize, while not addressing it directly. Genetic codes? He won’t have to worry about repeating the past with those darn codes. Keep on promoting perversion and that will kill of the population. If he’s promoting the fallibility of man, is he including himself? A leftist can’t admit that. Justifying violence in the name of religion? SAY IT—-Islamic Terrorism. Historians must “look directly in the eye of history” and label this period as a dark chapter. Moral imagination? This would explain trannies in the restroom.

  8. How many Americans would have been killed in a ground invasion of Japan? How many JAPANESE would have died in a ground invasion? All they had to do was surrender, but they refused.

  10. jon, i am with you, but there are actually those on this site who believe dropping the nukes was a terrible and inhumane choice, as if war could be fought is some clean way

    my relatives fought in the south pacific, the japs were not the surrendering type, and they wreaked havoc across asia, the philippines, etc

    they were inhumane killers who would not stop, and brought this justifiable holocaust upon themselves, clear and simple

  14. Ricky – That should make everybody realize just how much trouble we are really in when no one in the White House, from Barry on down to his last, little, sniveling, commie toadie that he has surrounded himself with, even remotely thinks that way!
