NBC: A Virginia man who says he joined and then defected from ISIS told U.S. investigators that he “gave himself” to the terrorist group and knew its goal is to destroy America, according to court papers.
A federal criminal complaint against Mohamad Jamal Khweis was unsealed Thursday, hours before he was to make his first appearance in an American courtroom.
Khweis, 26, is charged with providing material support to ISIS. He was taken into custody by Kurds in Iraq in March after he left a katiba, an ISIS neighborhood or battalion, in the city of Tal Afar in northwestern Iraq, according to the court documents. more
