TX Judge accused of hatching secret deal with red light camera company

FOX: A Texas judge arrested for making a secret deal committing his county to a 10-year contract with a red-light camera company was suspended Tuesday for allegedly blowing right past the state’s Sunshine Laws.

Judge Joel Patrick Baker of Smith County was arrested last week, after an activist group complained his 2014 meeting with American Traffic Solutions officials violated the Texas Open Meetings Act. Baker was charged with three misdemeanor counts of violating the act.

“A community is known for what it tolerates,” the activist group, Grassroots America We the People, said in a statement. “In Smith County, Texas, we should never accept disrespect for citizens, abuse of the public trust, and selective application of the rule of law.”  more

  1. The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) should have a seat next to ATS in the gas chamber Shaun. Both have colluded with governments across America to steal money from unsuspecting drivers. They knew the red light cameras caused MORE accidents and fatalities but kept this scam up because the money they were stealing was more importatnt to them than public safety.

This is just another example proving that government (including the “justice system” in far too many cases) is the most prolific criminal enterprise in America

  2. It’s really simple to avoid red light cameras, just don’t run red lights!

I’m all for them, I see 10-20 people run red lights everyday. Like they have something more important to do than me?

  3. Old Oaks – that might be fine if the lying scum bureaucrats had the yellow intervals set properly such that people had time to stop properly. Part of the scam ln GA municipalities (as recommended to them by the IIHS to “increase revenue”), they deliberately set the yellow interval so short that people didn’t have time to stop. I timed one light’s yellow interval near me (and made video of it to complain) at about 1.5 seconds when it should have been about 4 seconds. This left no time for cars to clear the intersection before the opposing light turned green and I recorded a near accident at this intersection because of this tampering with the cycling of the traffic light.

They weren’t trying to improve safety – they were intentionally degrading safety by creating “criminals” to fine a hundred+ dollars per “infraction”. They created the “infraction” by disobeying their own safety regulations regarding the timing of yellow intervals on red lights. The GA state legislature added one second to the stated intersection design parameters (which had been intentionally ignored / violated to create more fines) and made it law that the red lights be set to those standards.

The revenue from cameras immediately dropped so drastically that within a few months, there were no more cameras in GA because there weren’t enough people “running red lights” for the corrupt police agencies and municipalities who made deals with the camera companies to even support the cost of monitoring the cameras. Once people were provided the proper amount of time to stop, there was no major problem of people running red lights (not to preclude the few jerks who do regardless of the length of the yellow interval).

The whole thing started as a scam created by dishonest scum (the IIHS, the camera companies and greedy local governments) as a means of stealing money from people that weren’t breaking any laws until the local govts. changed the rules mid-stream (reduced yellow interval times) without telling anyone.

  4. The problem with the red light cameras is that people who aren’t accustomed to them either pound on the throttle to beat the camera, or slam on the brakes as soon as the light goes yellow. That causes all sorts of havoc.

I understand where old_oaks is coming from, too. Don’t run red lights and there will be no problems — EXCEPT for the plethora of retarded asswipes on the road with you. They will fucking kill you to avoid a ticket.

  5. And don’t get me started about the motherfucking speeding cameras. The mouthbreathing cocksuckers will SLAM on the brakes down to 35 in a 50mph zone.

There were no collisions in those corridors in DC UNTIL they put in the fucking cameras… now it’s wrecks every day.

  6. It’s all about the money.
A couple of years ago, I think in DC, the Chief of Police fucked up at a press conference and blurted out the truth.
Made a retraction, later, of course, but the people who were awake noticed – not that it changed anything.
It’s BIG money and allows the City officials to skim off the top, cuz there’s no way to follow the money, or the tickets, except through the camera light people, who are in on the scam.
I’ve always been surprised (sort of) that people who have been fucked out of their money didn’t paint the lenses black, or something.
A guy I know in Waldorf, MD was stopped, but his tires were touching the line, so he had to pay. AND THE CAMERA REGISTERED 0 MPH! The cameras double as red-light/speeding in MD.

    izlamo delenda est …

  7. And more… I was working in the DCDMV (as a ‘phone man — not a scumbag DMV shitstain), and I overheard a heated argument about some tickets. The guy stated, “I ran the light twice in 42 seconds? How the fuck is that possible? I’ll take the first one — that’s fair — but fuck the second one”.

“Well, sir, you are being belligerent, and I WILL call over the Cop!”
