The military fired me for calling our enemies radical jihadis

NYP: Two years ago, I was called into a meeting with the undersecretary of defense for intelligence and the director of national intelligence, and after some “niceties,” I was told by the USDI that I was being let go from DIA. It was definitely an uncomfortable moment (I suspect more for them than me).

I asked the DNI (Gen. James Clapper) if my leadership of the agency was in question and he said it was not; had it been, he said, they would have relieved me on the spot.

I knew then it had more to do with the stand I took on radical Islamism and the expansion of al Qaeda and its associated movements. I felt the intel system was way too politicized, especially in the Defense Department. After being fired, I left the meeting thinking, “Here we are in the middle of a war, I had a significant amount of combat experience (nearly five years) against this determined enemy on the battlefield and served at senior levels, and here it was, the bureaucracy was letting me go.” Amazing.  Read MORE

—Retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, who is reportedly being vetted by Donald Trump as a potential running mate, was fired as head of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) in the winter of 2014 after three decades in the military. Here he tells the real story of his departure from his post and why America is not getting any closer to winning the war on terror.

  1. As far as a potential running mate for Trump I like him better than Newt. I don’t know as much about him as I should but I will learn. If Trump picks Christie or Newt I’ll be deeply disappointed.

  2. This man is the perfect in-your-face counterpart of whatever dipshit lefty Hillary is going to pick as her running mate.

I hope his book will be a best-seller–and that it convinces a yoooge number of peopke to vote for a Trump/Flynn ticket.

  3. This guy would make a great VP. While Trump is building the wall, renegotiating treaties that are currently screwing us, and generally making America great again, Flynn could be in charge of kicking jihadi ass all over the world by replacing the scumbag military leaders that Ovomit has put in place, throwing the crappy current ROE out, and letting our soldiers kill the enemy where they find them without having “journalists” looking over their shoulders and judging (and negatively reporting) every move they make.

  4. Ann Coulter’s recent column on Trump’s consideration of Newt as VP had me take a step back from my support of him. She lays out a pretty good case for not selecting Newt. OTOH, this man, Gen Flynn, would certainly deliver a much needed message to our enemies that the window is closed.

However he could send the same message as Sec/Defense. That would leave the VP slot open to the very good suggestions that Coulter makes in her piece-worth a read.

Sen Mike Crapo is solid and he’s got the political experience Trump needs. Plus his conservative bona fides would drive the REgressives crazy(er)

  5. I don’t believe one damn word written or uttered by ANY Establishment media outlet. Not one. The story of Flynn being a top veep choice was attributed to ‘sources close to the Trump campaign.’ Pffft. I can tell you right now that the very next day we would have been reading about those so-called sources being let go from the Trump campaign or being banned from interacting with the Trump campaign, because no one in or close to the Trump campaign would be so disloyal as to either go on or off the record and spill the beans to an Establishment media type.

Consider EVERYTHING written or said about Trump or his campaign to be done in the interest of distracting voters from thinking about Killery’s epic dishonesty and failures.

  6. @MM — I read that piece the other day and, sadly, I completely agree. And I like Newt a ton. But he’s tainted by the machine. If I were in Trump’s shoes, I’d make Newt a staffer, maybe even Chief of Staff, but not veep. In any event, Trump is not going to operate like a Nixon in which he has only one ‘handler’ like his days of Halderman and Haig, both of whom served as gatekeepers to the oval office.

  7. i work out at the marine base almost every day

whenever i see jug-ears on the big screen, i stand up and give him the double-fingered salute

i do not accept this military-hating muslim racist as my commander-in-chief, never will

    fu obama

  8. Not so fast. What would the Veeps job responsabilities look like in a Trump Admin? If it’s to push through legislation and try and build a consortium Newt might fit that bill. He’s a team builder and a good campaigner. Guys like Flynn are more important in a Sec of defense position. Lots of people have their money on Tom Cotton for the dark horse veep.

  9. As good a VP as Newt may be, the bottom line is he would be an anchor on the Trump ticket and would probably contribute in a big way to a defeat. I might be wrong, but I doubt it.

  10. Flynn for Sec of Defense. Great choice. But VP needs to be a Tom Cotton/Trey Gowdy/Kelly Ayotte type; a strong conservative who hasn’t betrayed his/her constituents.
