Syracuse.com: A former New York State Supreme Court judge will reportedly still collect a six-figure pension after resigning from the bench and admitting to taking bribes.
Justice John Michalek pleaded guilty in state Supreme Court in Buffalo on Wednesday to accepting bribes from 2012 to 2015, according to the Associated Press. Investigators said he accepted tickets to two Buffalo Sabres hockey games and a $1,000-per-head political fundraiser from Democratic political operative Steven Pigeon while Pigeon had an interest in several civil cases before him.
The Buffalo News reports Michalek’s guilty plea won’t affect his state pension, however. He’ll be paid approximately $120,500 annually, free of state income tax, based on payroll records and a years-of-service figure provided by the State Comptroller’s Office. read more

Not that new of an idea. Several years ago where I live the legislature voted themselves a pay raise. Which would also raise the pay and the pensions for state supreme court justices.
A local machinists who liked to read the state constitution,and ponder its meaning. Read it and discovered the pay raise bill was illegally done. He kept calling in to a weekly radio show hosted by a local lawyer. After many months he finally convinced the lawyer the pay raise was done illegally and he was persuaded to sue the state. Of course the case eventually went to the state supreme court which found that – yes the pay raise and increase in pension was done illegally. But Hey, it’s to late now to reverse it. It did not go unnoticed that one or two the supreme court justices were scheduled to retire soon.
Same thing happened with the state selling bonds to pay for something, pensions maybe, I forget. The machinists again eventually convinced the lawyer to file suit against the state. This time the supreme court justices found Yes it was illegal, but hey it’s too late to do anything about it. The bonds have been sold, if the state were forced to default the state budget would collapse.
Politicians by and large are just a smarter class of criminals.

OK, as I read the story, it’s a dude. I see a lot of the other commenters here had the same confusion I had. Maybe a new idea for iOTWr “what did she/he do” type of post…Show the pic, add two gender options, and post the real crime vs the fake crime and get two different stories and reveal the real crime and gender a 11:00 to get the rest of the story!
There was not one damn thing this thing did that comes even light years from being even close to a $125,000 pension.
