The urban legend is that the penny would be dissolved.
They also say that Coke will clean your toilet. I can vouch that that is total BS.

I use baking soda to clean my toilet. Just as effective as traditional cleansing agents like Bon Ami or Coment, biodegradable, cheaper, and–more to the point–non-aggravating to my allergies/asthma.
I started using white vinegar instead of ammonia for the same reason.
Someone drank it.

In third grade (1953), our teacher asked if two students could bring in a baby tooth that came out. She put one tooth in a glass of milk and the other in a glass of coke. A week later she took the teeth out. The coke tooth was rotted. The one in milk was unchanged. I’m sure no one here is surprised by that. But being 9 years old it did have an impact.
