The grow operation was in a remote area of Curry County close to the California border, and located next to another large marijuana garden. The Curry County Sheriff’s Department reported finding 11,992 mature marijuana plants.

The operation had been spotted by helicopter crews a week earlier, and eradication teams were brought into the area to cut down the plants and haul them back out to a landing zone. The plants were destroyed by a wood chipper.

No arrests have been made in the bust, and the garden was vacant when the eradication team arrived at the site. According to a press release by the sheriff’s department, there was evidence of weapons and chemicals at the grow site.  more

  1. I would be surprised if it actually a cartel operation.
Now that the cartels can openly run ‘legal’ grows here in CA with the police protecting, rather than confiscating, their drugs they have no need to run risky operations like that.
More likely locals doing the grow and selling to the cartels.

  2. From the linked article: ““It was clearly a Mexican grow operation,” he said. “We found at least two camps with some food that indicated that information.”

That made me LOL. Had to be a jug of horchata.

Wait. . . . what? The cartel was found in the forest?

There. Fixed it for ya. Yer welcome.

  4. Thank you Gentlemen for protecting us from that plant. You’re everything we’ve come to expect from years of government service.

ETA: Wonder which competing grow operation ratted ’em out.

  5. They have found a bunch of Mexican cartel farms in national forests in Colorado and Idaho.
You want to be damn careful if you find yourself surrounded by pot plants out in the middle of nowhere. Look out for fish hooks and shotgun traps — but those are old methods, they are probably using much worse now.

  6. So the LEOs think it is a Mexican operations? Brilliant deduction, considering over half of the state is Mexican. I just wish CA would legalize pot to help stem the tide of losers and dopers moving to Oregon; we have enough already.

  7. Smokin’ them wildwood flowers got to be a habit,
    We didn’t see no harm.
We thought it was kind of handy,
Take a trip and never leave the farm!

One day this feller from Washington came by,
And he spied ’em and turned white as a sheet.
Well, they dug and they burned,
And they burned and they dug,
And they killed all our cute little weeds.
    Then they drove away,
    We just smiled and waved…
Sittin’ there on that sack of seeds!

  8. Tony, pot is legal in CA.
That is why the cartels are scarfing up warehouses for ‘legal’ grows.
Note that this was right on your border, maybe your laws are the reason it happened.
