WT: The IRS has discovered more than 1 million Americans whose Social Security numbers were stolen by illegal immigrants, but officials never bothered to tell the taxpayers themselves, the agency’s inspector general said in a withering new report released Tuesday.
Investigators first alerted the IRS to the problem five years ago, but it’s still not fixed, the inspector general said, and a pilot program meant to test a solution was canceled — and fell woefully short anyway.
As a result, most taxpayers don’t learn that their identities have been stolen and their Social Security files may be screwed up.
“Taxpayers identified as victims of employment-related identity theft are not notified,” the inspector general said.

This was before it was as widespread as today.
They took out about $100k in credit cards.

I prepare 1099s for a couple of companies, and a few months ago we received notices from the IRS about potential discrepancies between names and SSNs. So I pulled the originals. The differences were entirely due to entry error on their part – and one of the names was so unintelligible it took me a few minutes to figure out who it was, even though it was a simple name. Yeah, I have a lot of faith in the capability of the IRS.
They should include Obama’s name with the list of thieves that stole SSN’s.

Last year I got a red flag when my dentist asked for my S.S. number to clarify which Dadof4 I was.
‘Say what?’ I asked. ‘In the same neighborhood? He must have gotten my mail one day and decided to use it. I guarantee you no other Dadof4 exists. Especially in Big D. Tell him I would like to meet him. Everyone with my last name – and I mean without exception – wants to talk to any “of4” they meet! It’s what we do. If he is Hispanic – he stole it. No Hispanic “of4″s ”
Then I went to my insurance company last December and was told another Dadof4 was in their records. Told them the same thing.

A local man discovered that his SSN was being used by an illegal, a situation that was causing him some serious issues. He pursued the matter with an attorney and was ultimately told by the government to STOP HARASSING the identity thief.
DC needs an enema to flush out all the excrement that has accumulated there.

Around 20+ years ago when I got my CDL in Colorado the clerk said someone in Calif was using my ss#. There wasn’t much you could do about it in those days other than write the Attorney Gen.
I never would have known if that clerk hadn’t told me.
The congress needs to overhaul the irs and jail half of them.
I suspect the delay in revealing the illegal use of the numbers was because the IRS sold lists of numbers to highest bidders and gave them use time. Obama’s administration is playing loose with taxpayers money, life styles, jobs, security, and probably everything else.
Pretty much neutralizes the ssn system eh?
