RICHMOND, Va., Sept. 15 (UPI) — Virginia’s Supreme Court has ruled Thursday Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe was not in contempt for restoring voting rights to convicted felons.
The court’s one-paragraph decision upholds the voting rights the governor restored last month to people who have served their time and completed their probation, McAuliffe’s office said.
“I am pleased that the Supreme Court has dismissed the case Republicans filed in their latest attempt to prevent individuals who have served their time having a full voice in our society,” Gov. McAuliffe said in a statement.
State Republicans have contended McAuliffe was making a purely political move during an election year with Virginia’s felons largely African-American and likely to vote Democrat.
Republicans said they would now move to the legislature to pass bills that would limit McAuliffe’s ability to grant such clemency. MORE

I was surprised to learn that in Texas a felon can own/buy a firearm five years after parole period is over.
Why not? If you’ve paid your price to society and have kept your nose clean, you should be restored any rights lost. Don’t release them into society if you can’t trust them at all.
Let the commutation of sentences begin.
Bill – Used to be laws against vagrancy.
Now it’s some kind of strange Liberal Status Symbol or more like a twisted Tim Burton wet dream!
They need to put a few bulldozers to work over there!
That video of Paris is disgusting.
Actually, that video of Paris looks exactly like downtown Portland, OR
This was purely political done just before a national election. Having said that the chances of a lot of these guys voting is next to non existent. If McCauliffe had been honest he would have had the legislature debate the issue. Chances are he would have won but he chose to wait until he figured he couldn’t be stopped. I suspect he’s getting a big payoff from the Clinton Foundation for this little bit of political legerdemain.
