EAG: BUFFALO, N.Y. – A new three-year contract between the Buffalo Teachers Federation and Buffalo Public Schools eliminates a controversial provision for taxpayer funded plastic surgery for union members while increasing pay by 14 percent.
“The biggest victory is that we reached a contract,” the BFT’s infamous president, Philip Rumore, told The Buffalo News. “Now, perhaps, we can start talking about kids, rather than contracts.”
Rumore’s comments are ironic considering that the BFT has steadfastly refused to agree to reasonable contract terms for the last 12 years, which represents “the longest contract stalemate in the history of public sector collective bargaining in New York,” according to the news site.
One of the major sticking points in negotiations has been a provision in the expired teachers contract, which by law remains in place until a new one is crafted, that awarded BFT members free plastic surgery, courtesy of taxpayers. MORE
The numbers don’t add up.
61%? I suppose that’s pretty good for a bunch of stinkin’ buffalos.
Results mean nothing.
All that is necessary in Public Union contracts is the wailing and gnashing of teeth over the fate of the “l’il chillens!” (the actual children be damned).
They are successful, however, in turning out ignorant automatons who will pull the ‘D’ lever with mechanical repetition, at every election.
And THAT is why they “deserve” a raise!
izlamo delenda est …
I’d like to get a 14% raise but I’m not holding my breath. I’d rather do what I do than work for the govt., been there done that and I couldn’t stand the politically correct bs nor the damned union telling me how to think and vote.
Teaching:
Profession where miscreants and ne’er do well’s are warehoused and paid handsomely for the service of guaranteeing that those whom they are ‘teaching’ never reach college and never compete for their benefits.
14% raise? Wow. For destroying our culture and traditions? Can’t beat it I guess. Must be great to be in a teacher’s union. They’ll be making $90,000/year with bonuses and pay increases.
Don’t forget the 3 months off in the summer and 188 day schedule. That works out to $488/day. Say they work 8 hours in school and another couple at home…$50/hour. Don’t forget they get that $50/hour all summer long.
I would bet my last donut, you could get applicants to line up for miles if they threw these jobs open to qualified, unemployed people for half or even less the cost.
There is no fucking way in the world that $90,000/year is any where near the market clearing price. No way. And yet there’s crowd of these prima donnas in the article holding signs that say learning is not testing. What bullshit.
Fact is, mandatory education is a recent development(1880s). Another REgressive means cooked up by the Frankfort School. Yes we’ve always had institutes of higher learning but they were for, yaknow, intelligent people that already were, for the most part, self educated.
It’s vital for the state to get young, unplowed minds. Look at the result. Pretty fucking bad ain’t it? On top of it, these contracts are the causation of the crippling debt that almost every city in the country faces. Read the GD numbers in this article. They are lunatic. Look at your property tax bill-I’ve owned property all over and usually 50-60% is for education(?) For a 61% graduation rate???
This is my high horse-the biggest enemy we face is the NEA. They have done unimaginable damage to our country.
Come on guys, that is a better return than the taxpayers get from their wimpy, lying, complicit, complacent, vote-their-own-raises-elected politicians.
I hear social security recipients can look forward to their first cost of living raise in three years! 3/10th of a percent. Whoa, hang onto your walkers, seniors! In the meantime everything has gone up.
Ever wonder why Yellin says no interest rate adjustment in Oct, but then raise it a bit before the new year? THAT’S WHY. Numbers manipulation, of which Obama NEVER fails to take advantage.
I wonder what the under appreciated, over used and abused military are getting. Usually the same as Social security. What a freaking shame! As my former husband, who served 20 years, used to say, ‘Thanks a lot! 0% of practically nothing is NOTHING! Those minuscule raises only put us in a higher tax bracket, when we were serving in the military. On duty 24/7, (and believe me they take advantage of it), in some horrid hell hole, and enduring family the separations.
And congress inflates its pocketbooks every chance it can. No ifs, ands, or buts, just QUIETLY DO IT. AND ON TOP OF IT ALL, THEY EXEMPT THEMSELVES FROM THE LAWS THEY FOIST UPON US.
They should all resign. Especially those who cross partylines to support Hillary. (“They’ll control Hillary; oh yes, just like they controlled Obama carrying majority houses!) What a bunch of faux ‘principled’ jerks! They never let their principles get in the way of their self-interest. I’d say shame on them, but to feel shame you have to have PRINCIPLE AND ETHICS!!
Wow! I get a whopping $2.26 MONTHLY raise, in Social Security!
That only comes to $27.06 extra a year, woo hoo, lets blow it on fast food. Alpo anyone?
Meanwhile, their retirement system is going broke. Instead of putting money into retirement funds, their beloved union is sinking a fortune into electing communists and advancing every left wing cause out there. Some day they’re going to figure out what happened, then ask us for sympathy and a bail out. Fukkem.
It has long been settled science that the dumbest college students major in education. Maybe they are not so dumb after all! They continue to suck and we continue to pay them, in ever larger amounts for sucking!
MM – Well said!
Teachers are highly successful at being failures. It’s bonus time for them for being so good at what they do best committing failure!
Looks like Appalachians/hillbillies no longer get the Stupid label.
I looked up some demographics:
80% white
14% black
5% hispanic
49% democratic
25% republican
I guess this is one of the reasons Buffalo will remain, well, Buffalo. Anytime the union president comes out and says it was a pretty fair deal for everyone you know they just raped the city.
In any event, The 61% graduation rate may not be the fault of the teachers. I’d like to know what the racial and economic makeup was of the 39% that failed to matriculate. The only reason I ask that is that it seems that when young black kids from urban low income areas are asked how important an education is the answer seems to be growing that it’s not very. If you go into high school with this thought in your head put there by the gangs and thugs in the neighbourhood, not challenged nearly hard enough by the parent(s), reinforced by the entertainment industry (rap, hip-hop stars singing about how great the thug life is, drugs, guns, bitches, Ho’s etc) then when school becomes the least bit challenging they’ll turn off and tune out regardless of how hard the average teacher tries. It’s one of the big problems facing the black community today. Well, that and the Democrats.
All schools – open them to competition. Let the parents decide which schools gets their money.
This will straighten out pretty quick and lousy teachers will lose their jobs.
Ultimately proving teacher’s unions are antithetical to children’s education.
In S Africa, I read a story that a college was going to drop STEM courses because…they be too hard.
For room temp IQs, I’d add. So scr-north’s point is well taken. And anyone who is paying attention knows vouchers to the NEA is like sunlight to a vampire.
Trump today promised to get some sort of national voucher program rolling. That loud sound you heard were 1,000s of teachers(?) fainting and hitting the floor. Competition will end the teacher’s unions’ death grip on our country. He also wanted a national effort to push vocational schools. Anyone see what mechanics or electricians earn? I realized very soon in college I fucking hated it. I quit after a couple terms because I wanted to get out in the world and do something. I’d been in school since I was 5. At the time, even with the possibility of getting drafted hanging over my head, I quit.
Sure there will be those parents that will settle for public schools but public schools are reimbursed for the amount of butts in seats. They’ll have to improve or they’ll simply vanish.
How much was your raise this year?
How much would your raise be with a 61% efficiency?
I’m a retired plumber. We were told “you’re not paid to PUT IN leaks!” so if 4 out of 10 joints I installed leaked, I’d probably have been fired. Imagine a welder who was happy with 60% of his welds holding! Would YOU want to be in that building? What the fuck is wrong with us? Would you fly an airline that had a 40% crash rate? Would Hillary Rotten Clinton? Would the town council of Buffalo? Would the teacher’s union officials?
WOULD THE FUCKING TEACHERS?
Oy!
