Doomsday Prepping In style

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM/AP) — Some upper-income Texans are headed down below, not Australia, but below the surface.

An investor group is planning for a doomsday scenario by building a $300 million luxury community replete with underground homes. There will also be air-lock blast doors designed for people worried about a dirty bomb or other disaster and off-grid energy and water production.

The development, called Trident Lakes, is northeast of Dallas.

Residents will enjoy an equestrian center, 18-hole golf course, polo fields, zip lines and gun ranges. Retail shops, restaurants and a row of helipads are also in the works. For those looking to “get away,” they’ll also be able to enjoy three white sand beaches and a neighborhood spa.

“We’ve evolved it into long-term sustainability instead of a survival community,” Trident Lakes CEO Jim O’Connor told the Houston Chronicle, adding that the 400 planned condos will house about 1,600 people. “The concept is to build a community that will last two centuries or longer. That means we’re looking at designs that include earth structures that won’t be exposed to the elements.”

  1. I looked at the schematic. Wait a minute wait a minute…’Retail Shopping’? If you can get stuff to sell, you can go outside. Hey, maybe this is really just an incredibly expensive safe space.

  2. Talk about making yourself a target for the countless hordes of nuclear war (or whatever catastrophe occurs) survivors.

“Well, we know where the food and ammo is, guys. Let’s roll!”

  3. This is the stuff of a really bad dystopic scifi story. Like all utopian ideas it’s bound to fail because the people inside that underground hideaway are bound to fail one another as always. Good luck libtards, let’s see how it really works but it ain’t gonna last especially if you build it without God and some sense of law and order.

  4. 1. Harlan Ellison. “A Boy And His Dog”.

    2. Also, the last scene of Dr. Strangelove in the War Room.

    3. So, who will be the Eloi?
Elites and deep mines and luxurious repopulation breeding strategy.

  5. Who makes the rules after the EMP attack?

My idea of survival is never submitting to anyone and never allowing anybody to force their will upon me. I’d hate to be locked underground with a bunch of people who might feel like they should be the boss.

  6. There was a guy in northern Arkansas who had a compound in a very large cave that you could only access by an underwater entrance. Feds busted him for something.
But that would be my idea of an ideal location for waiting out a SHTF situation. Without a whole fck’n village of assholes who know everything about survival.

  7. There are small, big and MASSIVE survival bunkers all over this planet. Some are stocked with a few bullets and 2 weeks worth of food. Some are fitted with nuclear hardened doors and a full blown ER & operating room.Don’t worry about these bunkers cause you ain’t invited HAHAHAHA! I will live here in my little paid for American dream home{which I love & ask God to bless every day} until the ^&*! hits the fan.Just a matter of time after that before a gang of home invaders overpowers me.Not IF but WHEN…

  8. There’s a spot in Canada’s Northwest Territories…The Great Slave Lake….fish so old that they were fingerlings when Lincoln was the President…I’ll be there and cookin’ some back bacon…..my name will be Will….

  9. Looks like all the fun stuff in on the surface, I think they need to go and read how the biosphere worked in Arizona they were in there for two years.
Eight people, Failed. Sixteen hundred good luck.

  10. Retail shops? Golf course? Rifle range? IOW, sure looks like a commercial money making project.

    Prep-topia? Doomsday Land?

Now all they need is a ride that takes you through a bombed out cityscape with distant wailing of trapped people, packs of mangy feral dogs, zombies reaching for you, and gas jets firing as you roll by. Good times for everyone.
