NYDN: For 25 years, China Fun was renowned for its peerless soup dumplings and piquant General Tso’s chicken.
What left a bad taste in the mouths of its owners and loyal patrons was the restaurant’s sudden Jan. 3 closing, blamed by management on suffocating government demands.
“The climate for small businesses like ours in New York have become such that it’s difficult to justify taking risks and running — nevermind starting — a legitimate mom-and-pop business,” read a letter posted by the owners in the restaurant’s front door.
“The state and municipal governments, with their punishing rules and regulations, seems to believe that we should be their cash machine to pay for all that ails us in society.”
The Second Ave. restaurant became a beloved local mainstay, with customers bemoaning its unexpected disappearance. The Daily News hailed the soup dumplings as the best on the Upper East Side in 2015. The details here
If you have never run a business, you have no right dictating how a business should be run.
Things are going just as planned.
I think they lost the Carnegie Deli for much the same reason, it just wasn’t stated.
No soup for you New York.
You all voted for the hot mess that is your government.
Enjoy. Mayor DiBlasio is taking a big dumpling on your rotten Apple.
“Free compliance advisors are available for on-sight consultation aimed at helping small businesses comply with regulations.”
But, but, the “compliance advisors” are free though…
I loved the ads NY used to run in Virginia and elsewhere urging people to move their businesses to NY. No Taxes for the first 5 years!
Funny. That ad campaign must have been a flip. Haven’t seen it in quite a while.
Flop. Autocorrect turned flop to flip 3 times during this correction. I beat it into submission finally
PHenry- That ad ran in NV last year. Oh please. Our state has no income tax and tons of corporations headquartered here. Why the hell would someone leave here for NY? What happens when you leave in 5 years? A 75% exit tax on your profit based on the previous 5 years? Pffffft. It’s an organized gang and no one gets out alive.
I wonder if the manhattan libs understand what happened? I mean really understand it.
Or are they just sad they have no place to hang out? What about all the other places that closed? They don’t see a pattern?
The space is now available to become a Soylent Green dispensary.

Taxes on column A and column B.
The owner is quoted: “In a one-restaurant operation like ours, you’re spending more time on paperwork than you are trying to run your business,” which author Larry Mcshane, of New York’s Daily News helpfully explains to readers is a “gripe.” He has to explain that, since wrongly educated readers might be mistaken that Americans’ primary reason for allowed existence is something other than generating proof of proper government worship.
Hopefully they move to the midwest and open
another restaurant! Mom and Pop’s are the best
food you can buy, from ANY culture.
we need good chinese down here in south texas
@ PHenry
Turn auto-correct off and join those of us who never struggle with that problem.
Not since we turned it off, at least.
Time for civic leaders to tell their employees to figure out ways to make their agencies user friendly and affordable. If they’re not up to the job, they’ll be replaced by their victims, who will do the job.
If I want auto-correct, well, I have a wife…
She’ll auto-correct me without hesitation.
And I probably need it.
