  1. @Claudia — One of my guilty pleasures (maybe more like a morbid fascination) is sometimes watching “My 600 Lb Life”. The underlying factor in EVERY, single case is a mom or a spouse who brings bags and boxes of fast food to their ‘loved one’, the one they are always crying over and terrified of losing to obesity. One obese woman refused to get up and walk for over 4 months even though she was capable, so her friends and family brought her everything (and I mean everything).

  2. I feel sorry for her as I suspect that she was not a huge overeater and if she was a victim of Elephantiasis the vast majority of that weight is due to swelling from the condition. Diagnosed and treated are two different things and I suspect that the medical facilities in Egypt aren’t great to begin with and unless her family is rich she would unlikely to get even a level of care that would make a western doctor cringe. In any event good luck to her on what is clearly going to be an extremely dangerous journey.

  3. @Mickey, a guy I knew from work and rented a house I owned, died suddenly.
Went to the hospital and died on the x-ray table.
Last time he got on the scales at work he was 480 lb.
The crematorium did catch fire, it made the news in Savannah, Ga.
Kinda more common than you would think.

  4. This is a really strange story. I highly doubt the diagnosis of elephantiasis. Lymphatic filariasis as i remember is caused by a parasite and effect the infected body part or limb. It also earned the name “Elephantiasis” because of the texture of the skin as well as enlarged limbs.
To get that big she’s got to be consuming one hell of a lot of calories. You can’t get that fat from breathing air.

  5. I live with an overweight person. Not that overweight but 50 to 75 lbs.
I say that this person is a professional overweight person.
They have been heavy 99% of their life.
This is my theory about the overweight. When you see a POP, they are heading someplace to eat or they have just come from eating someplace.
They are also very lazy. They also hang out with other POP, that way they know
no one will comment on their weight.
Just my opinion having spent 20+ years with a POP

  6. “will land in Mumbai on Saturday”
Yeah, I bet! New sinkhole in Mumbai.

“hospital which is located near Charni road railway station”
Also home of the Caterpillar equipment and Steinway piano depots.

  7. Pbird, I would trust that those on this site are as merciful, kind, giving and caring individuals as you are ever going to find.
We are conservatives, that’s what we do.
However, we are also sentient human beings.

The fact is, you CANNOT WEIGH A THOUSAND FUCKING POUNDS because of a medical condition alone!
As an intelligent person I am entirely aware that someone who doesn’t leave the house has enablers that are assholes.
At what point do you say, “Hippo, we have a problem?”
Was it passing 400 lbs? 500 lbs? 600?
    Good Lord!

My concern and caring for an individual has it’s limits.
Especially someone who weighs as much as eight people because asswagons keep shoveling it to her for her to fill her over sized pie-hole.

  8. BFH-Did you mean “will land in Mumbai on Saturday” or is is more correct to say “will land ON Mumbai on Saturday”
Loco- One bucket would not help, they must beep a trough or two handy.

  9. Oh my goodness. I do feel sorry for her. Those who have been contributing to her obesity are truly guilty of abuse. They also have pschiatric problems. There’s some type of symbiotic relationship here

  10. Pbird, I believe ABUSE from iotw commentators are the LEAST of her troubles.
I would say problem #1 with a bullet is a one-woman heart pumping through an eight-women mass of flesh.

To blast us as callous is ridiculous.
    Stories like this are fascinating.
It’s like when I first saw 5’7″ Spud Webb dunk a basketball.
A truly What The Fuck! experience.
Most folks can’t fathom how a half ton human even exists?

It is like seeing Bigfoot and Nessie in the same afternoon while flying the Apollo 13 Lunar Module into Marianas Trench for some blind shrimp.

  11. Who da hell is bringing her food? Sure, she can scream and cry, but REALLY? It ain’t as if she’s strolling to the fridge!

She has a mental disorder, to say the least! And her ‘caregivers’… It must take four of them to get her in ‘position’ to crap/clean her. And I bet they’re sweating, too. Bedsores, anyone?

  12. I’ve taken care of a 500+ pound woman in the hospital before, but never someone this size. She was a 4-assist. Had another patient who was 450 pounds, also 4 assist and the most demanding harridan you would want to avoid. Snapped her fingers at hospital staff like she was a patron in a restaurant.

1100 pounds? Probably a 6 assist. So toileting hygiene 4 times a day, each time it takes an hour (trust me). Multiply that times Staff wages. When paramedics transport someone like this there’s also Hazard Pay.

The patient that was over 500 pounds? Her family dumped her at the hospital every time they went on vacation. They refused to pay $2000 for a week at a nursing facility. She’d claim left lower quadrant abdominal pain knowing that we wouldn’t be able to fit her in our Xray to diagnosis properly. Then one day our Doc offered to have her transported to the Brookfield Zoo to use their large animal Xray.

She said it violated her dignity.

    Insane.
