A recent incident at William H. Taft Educational Campus—which houses six small high schools in Bronx, N.Y.— begs the question of whether students are being taught about the Constitution.
After a photo taken of chief librarian Elizabeth Ervin made the rounds on social media, students were all too eager to offer up their opinion. The picture showed Ervin in a gun shop holding an AR-15 and smiling.
Many students cracked jokes, but others were alarmed. “It makes me feel insecure and uncomfortable,” said a freshman at Bronx Collegiate Academy. “Teachers shouldn’t have guns.” One of Ervin’s fellow co-workers condemned the photo as “disgusting.”
It’s ironic that those who are exercising their First Amendment right of speech choose to use it to vilify someone exercising their Second Amendment right to bear arms. Perhaps it’s time for the school to offer a refresher on freedom and the U.S. Constitution. – NRA
These special snowflakes need to see what the real world is like. I often say schools need to teach civics again so students get a true understanding of the principles this country was founded on.
I thought Bill Clinton taught us that private life has zero to do with public? Maybe if her gun was named William Jefferson Clinton? Maybe if she called it the first black president? As long as she’s not in school with her hobby, at this point what difference does it make?
Where is the picture?
Well, you can go into some neighborhoods, aaand, it is easier for you to, ummm, buy a firearm than it is, uhhhh, for you to buy a book. Aaaand, uhhhh, or check a book out, ummm, from the, uhhhh, library.
They were never taught the Constitution. I guess those schools don’t have rifle teams.
I say bring back a Marksmanship class and have the students get a real education.
A basement full of kids shooting targets can put an end to this anti-2a temperament.
Experiential lessons are the best.
TEACHING PROFESSION IS SLAVERY.
No constitutional right to do ANYTHING. Anything done on your personal time is a FIREABLE offense.
You wanna get a 20 year mortgage, a 5 year car loan, and a lot of other crap, knowing the school can fire you over a beach photo, or holding a gun?
CRAP PROFESSION FILLED WITH CRAP PEOPLE.
“Teachers shouldn’t have guns.”
I know, right? How ya gonna chimp out, if teacher can whip it out?
funny the left can connect the non existent dots with this teacher pictured holding a gun and school safety but not with the clinton foundation and the selling of government favors? or the doj and fast and furious, or the state department in benghazi supplying guns to isis.
Trump’s DoE should bring back JROTC in every high school.
Also an NRA-approved firearms safety class and a Marksmanship class.
Once a teenager touches a firearm, its instant magic.
Agreed, a few years of that and the Left will lose 40 years of anti-2A conditioning fast.
I got mugged at W.H.Taft 55 years ago by “african-americans” [we used a different decriptor then]. In that part of the Bronx, only the skels have guns.
When I was in high school our Health Teacher (former Marine) invited anyone who was a hunter to bring their guns in to class and talk about hunting to the class.
Imagine that today.
I have a good friend who taught Jr. High. A couple years ago she got her NRA hand guns cert training cert. Someone spotted all those evil gun pictures on her facebook page and notified the school board. She went through non stop harassment from the district and other teachers. She finally quit and trains full time now.

It seems to me that these Triggly Puff’ers were already in a state of insecurity before that gun picture ever circulated.
More good news.

Hmmm, If there was no context to the pic (I suspect there was but if it contradicted the party line it was ignored) and these silly bastards comments are worth nothing. I hope she stands her grounds and doesn’t apologize or take down the pic. As for her fellow staff who called the pic “disgusting”, with luck a few will get mugged at gunpoint by some of the less progressive members of society and that may change their viewpoint.
PUBLIC school. If your kids are still in it, whose the fool?
whose^ oops
Looks happy to be able to defend herself. Have fun shooting, Teach!

addendum. Ok, i knee jerked. Apologies. However, these types of teachers are too few and far between. I hope that more of these conservative teachers step up to the plate and teach these kids right from wrong.
When I was a recent [’73] college grad and somewhat naive, I taught HS science in a very prestigious NYC private school. I was a certified NRA instructor/coach in several disciplines. In my tenure nomination year, I proposed to form a rifle team. I wrote up the proposal and submitted it to the Administration. Nothing was publicly announced to the student body. At that time, I was being considered for nomination for for that school’s NYS Teacher of the Year.
Funny how, not a week later, I was dinged relentlessly for “unprofessional conduct”…for sitting on the lab table while lecturing, or walking around while lecturing [not standing still], or bringing a little levity [causing laughter in class], having chalk dust on my suit jacket, and other BS “charges”. The teachers union wouldn’t help or defend me. I wasn’t granted tenure and was dismissed. And this was in the 70s…I can’t even imagine what the “academic environment” is like in today’s public schools.
