Pandemic Risk: Zika Mosquitos in 129 California Cities

Breitbart CA: The mosquitos that can carry the Zika virus have reportedly appeared in 129 California cities. With cold winter weather the only major obstacle to the Zika virus becoming America’s first pandemic since the 1957 Asian Flu, ground zero for a potential pandemic is now the West Coast.

The California Department of Public Health released an emergency warning on March 31 that two invasive (non-native) mosquito species named Aedes aegypti (the yellow fever mosquito) and Aedes albopictus (the Asian tiger mosquito), which are known to carry Zika, dengue, chikungunya and yellow fever, have now been found in 10 California counties including Fresno, Kern, Imperial, Los Angeles, Madera, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Mateo and Tulare.

Unlike most of California’s native mosquito species, Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus only bite during the daytime. They are distinguished by their small size, and by their black and white stripes on their back and legs. read more

14 Comments on Pandemic Risk: Zika Mosquitos in 129 California Cities

  1. How many cities have illegal aliens causing a health crisis?

Malaria, Dengue, Leprosy, Hepatitis A-E, Tuberculosis, Chagas Disease, HIV/Aids, Then there is Schistosomiasis, Guinea Worm Infection, Whooping cough, Cysticercosis, Morgellon’s, and a host of other infectious diseases.

These have a much greater impact on America’s health than Mosquitoes in California. BUT, you won’t read about it or hear it in the media.

  2. This could go two ways. Rationally, California would take steps to contain a potential health crisis, which would include mosquito abatement and trying to intercept the problem at the borders. But realistically, environmental zealots will press for protections of these mosquitos and the Zika virus, progressives will clamour for increased unfettered immigration from anywhere with no controls and full voting rights, Democrats will blame Trump, and the California legislature will devote its time to devising new public bathroom regulations for the sexually perverse and pressing the federal government for more funds for the high speed rail project to nowhere.

    California. We roll differently.

  3. Lived in Orange County in the early 90s. Never had a mosquito in our yard.
Have a brother in LA. Mosquitos are a non issue in this area of CA.
