2 Republicans Battle in Razor-Tight Runoff Primary Ahead of South Carolina June Special Election

Daily Signal: In South Carolina’s hotly-contested primary runoff for Mick Mulvaney’s old seat, it looks like the Republican candidates are headed for a recount.

Two GOP candidates, Ralph Norman and Tommy Pope, were running to fill a seat vacated by Mulvaney, who now serves as director of Office of Management and Budget. Norman received 50.3 percent of the vote, while Pope received 49.7 percent.

“With all precincts reporting, the difference in votes between former lawmaker Ralph Norman and state legislator Tommy Pope on Tuesday night was less than 1 percent, meaning a recount is automatic,” reported the Associated Press.  more here

  1. Let’s hope that when the nomination is finally decided and egos are put aside with the loser fully supporting and aiding the winner in anyway he can to gain the seat for the GOP.

  2. Let us instead hope, scr_north, that a Rove Republican does not win the runoff. We are better off having mere jackasses in Congress, instead of jackasses in elephant suits.

  3. “Norman was a clear conservative choice, while Pope was the clear establishment choice,” Roth said. “And when presented with those two choices, voters almost always go with conservatives.”

As a local that actually voted in this, I can tell you that the quote from the article is extremely misleading and oversimplified. At 50.3 vs 49.7, Norman is not a CLEAR conservative choice just as Pope is NOT a clear establishment choice.

I think Gowdy’s endorsement of Pope and Cruz’s endorsement of Norman says a lot.

Bottom line, even though there are only 203 votes difference, the outcome will not change…in my humble opinion. Yes, this race was this close from day 1.

One thing is for sure, in the general election on Jun 20, my vote will NOT be for Parnell (D)!!!!
