Military Times:

WASHINGTON — A senior mortuary employee at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware twice offered horrified inspectors a peek at American icon John Glenn’s dead body while the famed astronaut awaited burial earlier this year, according to an internal memo obtained by Military Times.

The disturbing allegation has outraged Pentagon officials and sparked a top-level investigation to determine whether misconduct was committed.

14 Comments on John Glenn’s remains were disrespected at the military’s mortuary, Pentagon documents allege

  1. Fake news. Glenn’s body being viewed for proper processing was not disrespected in any way.

If any disrespect for the dead occurred, it was the family who kept him on ice as long as they did. He died December 8, 2016, his burial was April 6, 2017. Why the big delay?

Why were the inspectors there, what were they to inspect.

  2. By the way, Glenn’s body was NOT viewed by the inspectors, however they were offered to inspect.
    Big deal about nothing.

May it was retaliation against the mortuary employee after all.

  3. As a pastor with experience in Military customs in burial issues such long delays (for scheduling purposes at places like Arlington and Ft. Indian Town Gap) are not uncommon and for the most part significant respect and honor are the norm for such proceedings. Supervisors and inspectors are involved in the process and occasional issues of decorum may occur. We always ask families and those associated with it to grin and bear the “red tape” that even follows us to the grave.

  4. The delay is that there is a waiting list for burial in Arlington, especially those who are buried with honors. I know, my dad died last year and wont be interred until July of this year.

  5. How dare they imply that they might not worship a famous, dead, dirty (*cough* ah…Keating! excuse me), Democrat‽ It’s not like he was some filthy, southern, not-Democrat1

  6. Glenn was a hero at one time, who later allowed the Washington culture to corrupt him. He never paid for his crimes, unlike Duke Cunningham, who had enough honor to at least accept his punishment like a man. Democrat vs Republican.

  7. “The disturbing allegation has outraged Pentagon officials and sparked a top-level investigation”

but nothing about looking for the missing trillion taxpayer dollars ?

  8. What can you expect from Dover Air Force Base? In the mid to late 1960’s they were running heroin from Vietnam through that morgue, packed around the bodies of soldiers. Denzel Washington’s movie “American Gangster” was a coverup of the actual events. I know. I worked there.
