Republican joins 2018 race for California governor

As reported by the Fresno Bee:

Assemblyman Travis Allen is the sixth candidate — and second Republican — to jump into California’s 2018 gubernatorial contest.

The candidates hoping to replace Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown are:

—Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat. Newsom announced his bid to succeed Brown early, in 2015. He was elected lieutenant governor in 2010 after serving as San Francisco’s mayor.

—Antonio Villaraigosa, a Democrat. Villaraigosa is a former mayor of Los Angeles, the first Latino to hold the post in more than a century.

—State Treasurer John Chiang, a Democrat. Chiang serves as the state treasurer and would be California’s first Asian-American governor.

—Delaine Eastin, a Democrat. Eastin is the former state superintendent of public instruction, leading California’s public school system from 1995 to 2003.

—John Cox, a Republican. Cox is a San Diego-based businessman with experience in real estate management and investment firms. He’s already dumped $3 million of his own money into the race. He previously made an unsuccessful run for Congress in Illinois.

—Travis Allen, a Republican. Allen is a three-term assemblyman from Huntington Beach. He’s heading a ballot initiative to repeal a gas tax increase passed by mostly Democratic lawmakers earlier this year.

  1. I give them credit for stepping in there. Why cede it to the loons without a fight. It’s a beautiful state, too bad it’s suffering such an infestation of marxist pigs.

  2. Newsom or Tony Vilar are shoe-ins….life long politicians, corrupt to the core, morally bankrupt and pure California in the Pelosi/Feinstein/KamalaHarris/Moonbeam fashion. This State needs no MUST crash like big time before it ever recovers…

  3. I guess if you’ve got millions to flush, running as a Republican in the California gubernatorial race is a good a way as any. I’m just hoping they will secede soon, so we can re-route the wall north after Arizona.

  4. VIllaraigosa is the worst kind of turd, He’s an ex-gang member, racist, and while he was L.A. Mayor, he cheated on his wife, who kicked him out of the Mayor’s mansion. She and the kids stayed in the mansion, while the taxpayers paid for him to live elsewhere. This little prick needs to be deported in the worst way.

  5. Applaud the two Republicans for trying, but like Illinois, if the legislature is solid democrat, they’re wasting their time. Cox would win lots of votes in the bay area if he had a hyphenated last name of Ucker.

  6. If you eliminate the now estimated 9.3 million illegals that vote down in the arm pit of California we might have a chance. Travis Allen would be a great candidate. He has a pretty big SoCal base. That would help because any Republican will California North of Sacramento and east of Sacramento.
