Missouri Gov. fact-checks LSM’s lies about Republican bill that established protections for pro-lifers

DC: Missouri Republican Gov. Eric Greitens called out by name specific news organizations for spreading what he called “literally fake news” about a Republican bill that established protections for pro-lifers in the state.

Reporters and left-wing activists spread the false claim that the bill allowed employers to discriminate against women who use birth control or had an abortion.

Newsweek, for example, was forced to retract its story about the bill, which was passed during a special legislature session to “protect the lives of the innocent unborn and protect women’s health.”

What the legislation actually did was establish protections for pregnancy care centers and prevented people being forced to “directly or indirectly participate in abortion” if it’s contrary to their religious beliefs or moral convictions. continued

  1. It’s time that media outlets when they print incorrect items that could be easily checked and verified be made to do something in addition to simple retraction on page 45. First of all the retraction must be printed or reported in the same spot and occupying the same space as the original story. The media can explain how the error occured and what measures they’ve take to ensure it doesn’t happen again but it must also be accompanied by an apology to the injured party. Second depending on the severity of the error the offending media (anyone reporting it) can be ordered to pay damages to the injured party, the amount being up to a Judge or other sort of arbitrator. I’m not saying this is the process for all errors in a story but for ones that should have been caught. Regrets on behalf of the reporter/media are no longer enough and this should not have a “chilling effect” on the news as they wouldnot doubt argue but I believe would actually serve to start the process of the public trusting the media a little more.

  2. I interviewed there 25 years ago moving to DC from Business Week in NY and it was already in decline! I can’t imagine how they are still in biz!

    God I feel old…
