What’s Your Least Favorite Gun Control Claim?

Truth About Guns: In a recent post, I stated my disgust at the the antis’ claim that a firearm in the home puts a gun owner and his or her loved ones at greater risk of injury or death than if they’re gun-free. Suffice it to say, it’s a deeply misleading stat that’s been fisked numerous times. “Your gun will hurt you!” is the latest “go-to” claim for gun control advocates. It replaces another one which used to drive me crazy . . .  MORE

SNIP: My particular favorite is when progs say ‘silencers’ reduce the noise down to the level of gum popping, which then makes the cops run around all confused trying to get to the scene of the crime.

  1. “We won’t run any story that shows guns in a positive light.”
    — CBS editor to Bernard Goldberg way back in the 80’s (best I remember). Fake news has been around for a long time.

  2. I crack up every time I see an evil silencer on a revolver in the movies, they go pew, pew, pew.
A weapon that shoots the .223 Rem cartridge, AR 15, is not “high powered”.
    7mm RUM, 30.06 Spring, .338 Lapua, .340 Weatherby, .308Win.
    These are “high powered”.

  3. jeez …. where to start ….
“Stop the … Gun Show background check loophole”
“… automatic weapons” with “… pistol grips”
    “… cop killer bullets”
    “… high-capacity clips”
“No one needs more than (fill in the blank) bullets”

  4. My Dad’s cousin would ride the trolly out of DC to go hunting with my dad on the family farm. He would carry his 22 rifle and the game he bagged on the trolly when he went back into the city at the end of the day. This was in the 1920s.
My Dad would pick him up at the trolly stop in his model T hot rod with a fire truck engine.

  5. “No one needs a high capacity magazine. Why do you need a 30 round magazine?”

Response: I choose high-capacity mags because you cannot guarantee I will never need them. You do not determine the level of threat I may face, therefore, you have no right to limit my response to it.

  6. “Oh, so you think people should be able to own a tank, or missiles!”

Response: No. I think I have the right to own any calibre of weapon that our ground troops have at their disposal to carry into battle.

  7. “Ya don’t need 10 bullets to kill a deeeeer” just the sound of that criminals while voice makes me cringe he would have been a perfect running mate for Killary like the Bonnie and Clyde of politics.

  8. oh here’s the whole quote, don’t puke on your shoes..
“They get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”

  9. A woman can’t handle a caliber over a 22 because it will knock her on ass.

That I’ve heard from know-nothings and from guys at the range who appear to be 24 months pregnant (that’s a corporation!) as I load up my S&W 686.

  10. Yeah, the one I detest most is the old “You stand a greater chance of being killed by your own gun by a bad guy.” I think the anti’s come up with this one by watching too many movies where the woman just can’t bring herself to shoot someone.

I really hate it when kids “find” a gun at home and someone gets killed. You can’t legislate responsibility, but the less families know about gun safety instead of being just freaked out all the time by guns, the less able they are to be responsible gun owners. There’s such a mass hysteria over them. So stupid — and so dangerous.

  11. Anytime anyone ever says, “common sense gun control”.

Common sense gun control means two things to me:

    1. Know your target and what’s behind it.
    2. An armed society is a polite society.

The other one that chaps me is when people say that the 2nd Amendment allows me to have a gun. WRONG!

The truth is that the 2nd Amendment only acknowledges and codifies in the US Constitution the natural law of God that gives everyone the right to self defense.

Proof? The complete removal of the Constitution won’t take anyone’s rights away. Natural law dictates exactly the opposite.

  12. Any of their phrases where they add “common sense” (like I am a moron if I do not agree with them) and “gun safety” for groups which do not offer a single gun safety class (only gun prohibition).

The worst though are idiotic “Gun Free Zones” that get innocent people killed. Killers are not stopped by plastic signs.

  13. Hm. I’m a little frustrated. I have TU’d several comments and when I come back to the page I see they didn’t stick. I have tried to give reboot and Brayden Lynch a TU 6 or 7 times and they don’t stick.

    Weird. And frustrating.

  14. My least favorite claim is the most common one, that somewhere, sometime, in some way, a gun control law reduced crime, made someone safer, or prevented a political assassination.

Someone has counted almost 60,000 such laws, and no successful laws have been found. On the contrary, he posts the actual cost of gun control, at it is tremendous.

  15. Ah f**k. Now they stuck. Weird.

    ===============

All my faves have been mentioned. I think the one I hammer the hardest is the “If it only saves one life” and I whip out the stats on guns used in self defense scenarios. Over 100,00 lives saved every year in th U.S. That’s just the ones on the record.

Take away the guns and more live are lost.

So, if you want to use “If it only saves one life” argument. You lose. Big league. If that’s your red line, that would mean we should make it a law everyone should have a gun. It’s that huge of a difference.

The problem is the MSM. Especially when they admit they’ll never run a story that puts guns in a positive light. They are hiding the truth and warping minds.
