So how come gas is still over $2.50 a gal. in Eastern Wash. and over 3 bucks in Seattle. When I went to the Mariners game in Seattle about 2 and a half weeks ago it was about 3 bucks a gal. I know it’s the damned Wash. State gas taxes, CDA, Id. has consistently been $2.20 to $2.30 a gal. over the past year and hasn’t changed. Polson, Mt. on Flathead Lake has been consistently $2.20 a gal. over the past yr. I hate the too damned high Wash. State gas tax. It could be worse, it could be the nanny state of Ore. where they don’t trust you to pump your own gas or friggin Cal.
He’s not a liar (in this one instance), just out of touch. His chauffeur gases the car and he’d wealthy enough not to care what the price is.
Gas prices could go down to a dollar a gallon, but the states will put a $2.00 tax on each gallon.
So… What’s up with your states?

Risking my head, I’ll throw my neck in the ring. He’s right to some degree. Example: Monday oil rockets up 47 to 50 bucks a barrel, a 6% increase. On Tuesday, the pump prices go up from $2.10 to $2.30, a 9% increase. On Thursday oil drops back down to 47 bucks a barrel, yet the pump price sticks around $2.25 thru the middle of next week as the price of a barrel of oil hovers at $47. Maybe it might drop back to $2.10 if oil stays at $47 for another week.
Which brings up another point, since when does the oil go from the ground to the pump in the same 24 hours? Why doesn’t refining absorb the cost on the way down in any circumstance? Driving season this year has the lowest oil prices in a long time, yet pump prices are still around $2.25.
TAXES at the pump increase and never decrease.
Actually, Chuck isn’t all that wrong, he just didn’t explain why. In some states, when the cost of gas goes down, the government uses it as an excuse to ratchet-up the taxes so the consumers won’t notice until it’s too late. So, while the *price* of gasoline might go down, the *cost* doesn’t.
