I would say New England, probably CT, and 1700’s cold room construction. I used to hunt Pachaug Forest for 16/1700’s artifacts. It was fun, but hard work. Seen more than a few of those above. Because of the density of the trees, it builds up more than an inch of natural sediment/dirt media a year.

Awaiting their “little special guests”.
Similar question to the question that first entered my mind about ten years ago.
The mountain valley north of me is called Lick Creek. Someone was putting on an event at the country park they called “Lick Fest”.
My first thought when I saw the banner, LICK FEST, was who is doing the licking and who or what will they be licking? That was before seeing the smaller print on the banner describing it as a music festival for local bands.
OTOH, three times over the last 2 weeks I’ve had close encounters with black bears while out walking. Sure everyone says they usually run away as soon as they see you. But the word usually is not the same word as always. Might be a bear hug. Which is about as comforting as the hugs progressives want the government to give us. No thanks.

P.S. – I know a metal detector guy who lives in South Texas who searches for Texas Revolutionary and War of Northern Aggression (Civil War, to Yankees) era artifacts. He’s got a lot of coins (mostly in uncollectable shape), buttons, bullets, buckles, and other metal paraphernalia that he’s found over the years. He showed me a corroded uniform button that he got 2 or 3 hundred dollars for on eBay, which I wouldn’t have picked up if I found it in an alley, but what do I know? Anyway, his prized possession is a genuine CSA belt buckle he found at some old Confederate camp site somewhere in Texas. I asked him what he thought he could get for it, and he said he would never sell it. I told him if that were the case he should arrange to be buried wearing it, along with a coin with a current date. Told him it would confuse the hell out of future archeologists. He seemed intrigued by the idea. Wish I could be around when they dig him up.
🙂
@ VietVet, no, it was mostly iron object leftovers, square nails, etc. One of my friends found some 1700’s ish coins, but I never broke into that century.
We used to wade the lakes with fresh water metal detectors and we found hoards of old coins and jewelry. One buddy snagged a 8CT ruby ring. He used it to pay off his wife to give him more time away to go hunting, hahahaha!!! It covered her finger from knuckle to knuckle.
