“Tech”. The epicenter of Tech is the Silicon Valley. The don’t use much Silicon down their anymore. Certain commodities or industries take turns being Gods of the valley. Intel, Applied Materials and Lam Research were the Gods back when we were doing business down there. Now it’s Google and Apple. But all these places have one thing in common. They breed social misfits. I think it’s a combination of being trapped in those little cubicals, being a Nerd, and everyones desire to climb to the top. You can meet some strange MoFo’s down there.

Taking over weekly vacuuming duties once in a while or cooking a lavish dinner every now and then has a similar effect.
Totally agree with his opening point. I was flabbergasted when Larry Summers, total leftist, was targeted for suggesting something scientific.

I can tell you haven’t experienced real Social Discomfort until you attend a business lunch with 3 or 4 of these people. I recall a 12 minute conversation about how fast a certain commodities manager walked. And he’s the one that brought it up. Must have been his Keds.
