Officials with the perpetually insolvent Chicago Public School system laid off 356 teachers and nearly 600 school support staffers this week.
The teachers and other employees received their pink slips from the taxpayer-funded school district on Monday, reports the Chicago Sun-Times.
Chicago’s elementary schools will have 240 fewer teachers this fall. Second City high schools will have 116 fewer teachers.
In addition to the 356 teachers, Chicago Public School officials also sacked 362 classroom aides and 221 employees who were security guards and special education aides.

Isn’t this the same city whose teachers struck, or the union made headlines because they demanded some outrageous wage & benefits package?
Get with the program Chicago – don’t lay off the union dues paying teachers, lay off the tax payer subsidized students. Who needs them anyhows?

Perhaps this makes sense. Perhaps this is “right-sizing” the school staff due to declining enrollment. So many future students are aborted that maybe there just aren’t any.
They are not too broke to continue paying Rahm a yuge salary for failure! Must be the Chicago way!

Because gov’t is incompetent, people that go into teaching are always at risk for either being laid-off, fired for not having the correct opinion on facebook, or principal is having a bad week.

Teaching isn’t about teaching anymore. It’s about surviving the many political mine-fields you need to negotiate just to make it to the next school year.
The school could be rededicated to “Our Lady of perpetual underfunding”.
