ISIS Claims Responsibility For Knife Attack In Surgut, Russia, Leaves 7 Injured

Milo:

A knife-wielding man injured seven pedestrians in the Russian city of Surgut before being shot dead by police.

RT reports Russian police killed the attacker as he was trying to resist arrest, even after a warning shot was fired into the air.

The Investigative Committee said, the attack, which happened around 11:20 am local time, left at least seven injured, all requiring medical attention. The original number of victims was reported as eight but the police later corrected the number.

RT reports that the attacker was identified as a resident of Surgut and was in his early 20’s. The local police are trying to establish a motive for his crime.

The police have said investigators are currently trying to establish if the assailant had a mental illness. Terrorism has not been viewed as a primary motive at this time.

However, Reuters reports ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack through its Amaq news agency.
