Fusion GPS Partners Plead The Fifth During House Intel Appearance

DC: Two of the co-founders of Fusion GPS, the opposition research firm behind the infamous Trump dossier, invoked their Fifth Amendment rights during a meeting with the House Intelligence Committee on Wednesday, a person familiar with the matter told The Daily Caller.

Peter Fritsch and Thomas Catan, the two Fusion GPS partners, plead the Fifth “to every question asked of them,” the source says.

The House panel earlier this month subpoenaed Fritsch, Catan and their fellow partner, Glenn Simpson, to discuss their involvement in the dossier, which was compiled last year by former British spy Christopher Steele.

In a letter to California Rep. Devin Nunes earlier this week, Fusion’s attorneys suggested that the three partners, all former Wall Street Journal reporters, would refuse to cooperate with the committee, citing First Amendment protections and confidentiality agreements.  more

  1. So what is the solution to this Fifth taking? There seems to be no remedy like contempt of congress and no penalty whatsoever. Ask Lois Lerner.

Why have hearings or testimony of any kind?

  2. This is just foreigners unfamiliar with our ways. Look at DOJ, FBI, IRS, NSA, State Department, The White House — the Federal government isn’t interested in punishing people who break their laws. Honestly, you can swear that you’ve committed perjury to the people you’ve perjured yourself to, and nothing bad is going to happen. The Federal government just wants the people to know the truth.

  3. Ummm. Yea.

Pleading the fifth is not a get out of jail free card. It just means you don’t have to testify against yourself.

They can still be thrown in jail, have their assets seized, and the business raided.
