Absurdly Expensive College Funds 3-Day Lecture Series Touting Totalitarian Socialist Hellhole Venezuela

DC: A fancypants private college in Southern California is funding and hosting a three-day lecture series this week that promotes Venezuela’s totalitarian socialist regime in glowing terms.

The lecture series at Scripps College features a Venezuelan government official, consul general Antonio Cordero, and seeks to raise awareness about the “truth in today’s Venezuela,” according to the Claremont Independent, a student newspaper.

A flyer for the first Scripps lecture, which occurred on Monday, claims that unnamed “experts” believe Venezuela’s electoral system is “the most transparent in the world.” The event focused on “black power in Venezuela” and “strategies of US intervention.”

The second Scripps lecture, held Tuesday, was titled “Paramilitarism from the Right versus Building the Communal State from Below.” A flyer for the second lecture explains that “paramilitarism” and “building the communal state” have “everything to do with gender.”

“Venezuelans expressed an overwhelming desire for peace as well as a sweeping victory for the socialist party of the Bolivarian government,” the flyer claims. It also notes that Maduro has “vowed” “to bring criminal charges against opposition leaders.”

Additionally, the flyer says, “the U.S. has moved to set up a rightwing government in exile.” “At stake are economic systems based on utterly distinct premises.”

The third Scripps lecture, “Black Liberation and Reparations at the Heart of Venezuela’s Revolution,” is scheduled for Wednesday.  read more

  1. Take that same money, and fly down there to SEE the Real Deal. Don’t just talk about Socialism, do and see it in living color. Take lots of pictures. We’ll see you when you get back. IF you get back.

  2. Add Cuba to the site-seeing list. My friend took a group of people (he plans tours) there last winter. Kept hearing how they wanted to see how successful they were and were ecstatic to finally get the chance to see socialism in all its glory.

When he got back, I never heard peep from him about the trip. He won’t even acknowledge that he went. I just smile and say nothing. It’s too sweet knowing that he got a real ‘education’.

  3. People who believe that socialism works have the blood of over 200 million people on their hands.

The failures of Nazi Germany, the USSR, Cuba, North Korea, Cambodia, and now Venezuela are axiomatic.

I curse anyone who thinks this perverse ideology is not pure evil.

  4. If they like the Bolivarian Revolution so much, perhaps a display of its benefits could be arrange in a Chavismian, Madurian sense.

Send masked motorcyclists with uzis to spray down the crowd as they wait for food and medicine that’s no longer except for the politically connected.

Cheer the fitness and svelte physiques of people who are starving.

Send armed gunmen into the radio stations to kill Radio Pacifica DJs on-air.

Totalitarianism is the right word. Every Democrat is one if you dig even slightly below the surface of their cultivated compassionate poses.

  5. Admission to the seminar is free. However, ito show solidarity with the people of Venezuela, it is suggested you donate 3 cans of food, and 2 rolls of toilet paper at the door.

  6. By the by, tuition alone for an undergraduate degree is $51,000 per year. Room and board is extra. To be fair that’s before “income adjustments” which can lower that rate. I suspect though that there are a very disproportionit number of rich, white kids going to this SJW mill and are subsidizing a token number of less well off black and hispanic kids. That’s not such a bad thing if they weren’t being trotted out in all the campus photos. A liberal today is truly a distateful thing.

  7. Schedule another one, then when they’re all seated, toss in a few cans of beans, a pocket knife and a roll of toilet paper, then lock the exits. Hopefully, Obama will be speaking.
