Elizabeth Warren: I do too have Native American heritage. Hope that clears everything up. OK, let’s talk about something else…

Doug Powers: Elizabeth Warren knows she has a tremendous amount of narrative brush to clear out of any path to the Dems 2020 nomination, and today, speaking to the National Congress of American Indians, she tried to refute Trump referring to her as “Pocahontas” by insisting she does have Native American heritage. The amount of actual evidence Warren offered to back up her claim? ZERO. But Warren presented some anecdotes:

I get why some people think there’s hay to be made here. You won’t find my family members on any rolls, and I’m not enrolled in a tribe.

And I want to make something clear. I respect that distinction. I understand that tribal membership is determined by tribes — and only by tribes. I never used my family tree to get a break or get ahead. I never used it to advance my career.

  4. I thought she got her “teaching” position based on fraudulently being a fukkin indian. Cherokee (who kept slaves, negro and otherwise, by the way), to be precise.

  6. At this point I smell a trap being set. It is quite easy for a surrogate with REAL Indian heritage to submit a DNA sample with Elizabeth Warren’s name on it, and the results will be unveiled at the exact moment that yields maximum results. No one will question the authenticity of the DNA, and Fauxahontus will be the poor victim of racist, misogynistic Donald Trump.

    “My mommy said I had high check bones, so that made me 1/64th Cherokee.”

  12. My father’s family is believed to have native American DNA. My dad had a prominent nose and high cheekbones. Also, he never had to shave a lot. However, any Indian DNA would be minimal. I’m waiting on my DNA analysis. I look very German and would never try to claim any kind of minority status in any case.

  15. My great-grandmother was a full Cherokee. My father (and 2 brothers) were the spittin’ image of Indians (black hair, dark skin) and (sadly) no tolerance for alcohol at all (stereotypical behavior I know).

    Yet my family (16% of my DNA) has never claimed any Native American approbation whatsoever, and probably never will. I’ve never even scalped a ticket.

  20. Me too Liz, one branch of the family tree for sure. Perhaps two. My Scots, Irish and Welsh ancestors came here early and pressed west of the Allegheny mountains. But no one in my family ever tried to claim any special privileges from it. Their self reliant attitude was also inherited.

  23. Senate candidate Shiva sent her one of those DNA tests and challenged her to prove she was an Indian; she declined and sent it back to him. His campaign slogan is “Vote for the Real Indian.” (he’s dot, not feather…)
