Seattle Police Confiscated 27 Firearms Since July Under ‘Extreme Risk Protection Order’

DC: Seattle police have lawfully confiscated 27 firearms from residents since July 2017 thanks to the help of a new “Extreme Risk Protection Order.”

Washington is one of six states (California, Connecticut, Florida, Indiana, Oregon) with red flag laws. 18 other states, and the District of Columbia, have proposed adopting similar measures in the wake of the Parkland shooting.

Fox News highlighted the story of Alexander Mckenzie, a 31-year-old Army veteran whose firearm was lawfully confiscated after people complained about him glaring at other patrons of a local pizza parlor.

Mckenzie has been treated for PTSD and reportedly “agrees” with the decision to take his weapon. He is one of 16 Seattle residents police have seized guns from since the order was enacted.  read more

  1. Off topic:

When I go to type a comment and fill in my screen name and email address, it is pre-filled in with another IOTW commenter’s screen name and email address. 😳🤔 Is this happening to anyone else? So far, it has been “RickeyG” and “Major Malfunction”.

  2. Off topic but I went to a meeting earlier and when I got back I could not open IOTW. Google warning it was not a secure site. Even tried the history tabs and still could not open. Then poof! It opened after a time. Whew!

That “Red Flag” law sure worked well in Florida, didn’t it?

  4. Rickey G, I thought my comment wasn’t posting, and your screen name was in where mine should have been. Weird. I’ve been out all day, too, and things were hinky when I got back. I restarted my phone and everything was posted when I went to this thread
