Patriot Retort: Because Los Angeles has oodles of cash to spare, they’ve decided to cover many of their streets with a white asphalt sealant.
Yeah. They’re literally whitewashing the streets.

City officials in Los Angeles are on a quest to reduce the effects of climate change by painting some of its streets in a light-colored, heat-reducing sealcoat.
The product, called CoolSeal, is a ‘water-based asphalt emulsion sealcoat designed to reduce surface temperatures and help mitigate heat islands,’ the company website, GuardTop states.
And how much does this whitewashing cost?
The “Tom Sawyer” plan for climate change.
Is it non-slip? When it rains does it get slippery?
Heat reducing? White reflects heat back up. How does that reduce heat, except that the pavement may be cooler at night and not radiate. But during the day it will be hotter. Unless the sealant absorbs heat, in which case it will radiate heat at night.

They’re going to need it since in a few years the people living on the street will probably outnumber those who don’t.
The last time I drove in LA, dark pavement was the least of their problems. Roughest streets I’ve ever seen. Deferred maintenance. I guess they were saving up for white paint.
I’ve been to white sands missile range. It is something you need to experience. I could try to explain, but you wouldn’t in any way feel the effect of a white reflective surface in the middle of a desert.
I doubt painting blacktop white for $40k/mile does anything more than make someone feel woke. But white rooftops do make buildings cooler.
So black would absorb the heat, white would reflect it back into the atmosphere compounding the problem. I didn’t read their shit, but that is logical.
Here in Central VA we have a large amusement park that is paved nearly entirely with “white” concrete…… One of the hottest places on fookin Earth in the Summer! MISERABLE!

I’m surprised such a progressive city as LA is going about this so wrong! The “right” way is to force all the private parking lot owners to spend the big bucks to paint THEIR pavement first. After the politicians obtain a financial interest in the pavement painting business, of course.

You can use it, but to put it back into the atmosphere is increasing the net heat in the skies over the city, allowing that heat to spread around making the entire globe hotter.

At first I thought it was to help with the hepatitis problem.
But of course global warming is always the main issue.
Makes all the discarded condoms, crack pipes, empty quarter-bags, and assorted human refuse easier to see, and, presumably, pick up as well, right?
When the white starts to wear, those streets will look like they have mange.
What about that ugly red stain when someone is hit by a car?
The graffiti folks will have a great time working their art on the white strets
