KFI: To news that is surprising to no one – a new study shows that bad traffic and a high cost of living are dragging down the quality of life for many Angelinos over the last two years.
The new survey from the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs, looked at residents’ overall quality of life, which dropped three points over the last two years to 56 in 2018. According to the survey, between 2016 and 2018, residents’ satisfaction level with transportation and traffic went down, following by concerns because of the cost of living.
More than half of respondents to the survey said they or someone they know has thought about moving out of their neighborhoods in recent years, thanks to rising housing costs. That percentage is significantly higher among younger people. more here

It’s the traffic. The traffic and the density.
Also the crime. And taxes.
But so far the beach is still winning – and that most of my friends are here.
Lazlo grew up in LA. I moved out in ’88 because the traffic was making me crazy, and don’t get me started about parking.
I would have stroked out long ago had I stayed.
If they didn’t give out a few million drivers licenses to illegals there would be less traffic.
You know what helps traffic? More “Day without illegals” protests.
Also, I used to go to Santa Monica until the parking cost went to $23.
And then what do people do? They park in the surrounding neighborhood and take up the residents’ parking spaces. Not cool.
Welp, gotta put on my think-like-da-gummit hat. The obvious solution to all those pesky cars is to make life too expensive for those who can afford cars. Then provide government incentives to attract those who cannot afford cars. See, wasn’t that easy?
I hated driving to LA from Orange County. But according to several young people I know, the biggest reason for leaving California was the cost of housing. Eventually, these folks wanted to buy a house, and for many this would have been a pipe dream for many years.
I also hated homeowners’ associations. HOAs are ubiquitous in California, and as a general rule I hated them.
LA only went to shit over the last 2 years? Really? Try the last 5 decades. I thought it was a snake pit when I bailed in ’74!

LA has NEVER had a quality of life. I grew up in socal and most people avoided it like the plague. After living near LA for 5 years, I commuted 10 years to LA from the country to avoid the cramped living spaces and crowds everywhere. It was worth it to have some land and open space.
My family got us kids out of that town in 1969.
Right after the RFK and MLK assassinations and Watts riots and the Charles Manson murder spree.
It was a smog choked shit hole even back then.

I lost my thriving lawn mowing biz, but moving away was the best thing we ever did.

I fled the insanity in ’76, The economy was crap, Ford was Prez, EPA was forcing many business to close or move, the streets were gridlocked, you couldn’t leave anything outside you didn’t want stolen, illegals were taking all the jobs cause they work cheap.
Never looked back.
