“Justify” wins at the Kentucky Derby

Justify won the annual Kentucky Derby on Saturday, beating out a swath of other contenders.

The race horse defeated the odds with the win at Churchill Downs, breaking a 136-year-old record by winning the competition without racing as a 2-year-old first. No horse since Apollo in 1882 had won the Derby without racing as a juvenile.

Justify, a favorite out of 20 horses to win the 144th Run for the Roses, had previously run only three races in his life.

The Derby win was the fifth for trainer Bob Baffert and the second for jockey Mike Smith. The race was won by two and a half lengths, with Justify covering one and a quarter miles in 2:04:20.  more

  1. ‘Justify’ did well …. very bad track (to say the least)

the rise of greatness is to win … despite the circumstances

(… as in the presidential election of 2016 …. )

  2. Flipin channels today and hit nbc when costas was getting a play by play….or more accurately gay by play from some freak prissy dude sharing the mic beside what looked like the lapinski girl, so I assume prissy was a skater, also.
I know the derby is about flamboyant hats, but…..

  3. I actually watched the Derby today instead of hearing whether horse and jockey made it to the finish line without incident (forever scarred by Ruffian😭).

Ashley Judd was not a good choice for the last spot before riders up. She knew not to wear her pink p*ssy hat to the Derby. I love the stories about the horses, farms and jockeys. All the Hollywood types on the red carpet etc…was one mint julep too many.

Not gonna’ click it. Nothing could live up to that description. Even George Lucas doesn’t have the technology to CGI that description.

  5. @Bad_Brad It’s heartbreaking. Why do they round up and kill mustangs. Beautiful rugged animals. They really eat too much grassland for cattle? I think they are another American symbol to be gotten rid of.

  6. Yes! Wish I had the big money to put on that horse, cause I was hoping Justify would win. Besides the race itself, another great moment was the jockey, Mike Smith, thanking and praising The Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ – it was sincere – justified by Faith. The Triple Crown should be on the horizon for this horse.
