KFI: Hasbro Trademarks Play-Doh’s Distinctive Scent.
Hasbro announced Friday they have trademarked one of the most iconic smells from your childhood – the scent of a freshly opened Play-doh can.
The toy company wrote in a news release that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office had recognized the distinctive odor of Play-doh. The Rhode Island company described Play-doh’s smell in the trademark application as a “sweet, slightly musky, vanilla fragrance, with slight overtones of cherry, combined with the smell of a salted, wheat-based dough.” more

always been partial to the scent of White Paste myself
nothing racial, just that She Who Must Be Obeyed liked to eat that stuff when we were in elementary school & I’ve had a jones for that smell on her breath since 2nd grade 😛
@The Rat Fink — fresh off the mimeograph!! The best!
I’d wear a perfume that smells like a fresh bed sheet right off the clothes line on a sunny day. Or a summer rain on a dirt road. I don’t know about play-doh; loved the stuff but wearing it? Hmm.

White paste glue was the good one!
VP Fuel !
I like Hoppe’s 9… mmmm mmmm good!
And the smell of a Lee Enfield. Anybody else notice that SMLEs and No.4s have a distinct scent?
But then again I can identify Chevys, Dodges, and Fords by smell.
And Western Electric circuit boards… weird kind of MEK, and stearine smell… sometimes with rosin solder smell.
Play-doh,summer rain on a hot road,silly putty,a musty cabin that you stayed at as a kid,cap guns,camp fire smoke,electric trains,race tracks.
And many more from my youth that I still love. Nothing brings back our memories like our sense of smell.
I’ll second the Hoppe’s No. 9. Broke my heart when they changed the formula and lost the original banana type sent.
@Geoff
Capgun smoke!
I forgot about that.
Makes me want to relive my childhood with my brothers, cousins and neighbors!
I want a cologne that smells like airplane glue from the 1950’s, before they ruined it by
taking out the toluene because of the damned glue-sniffers. Ever notice how a few assholes can always result in the rest of us being punished for it? Like with firearms today.
Also want one that smells like a freshly fired roll of caps from a toy pistol.
Nobody else would appreciate those fragrances today, but I would.
I’m a honey badger.
🙂
cfm990- Yeah, for guys who want to pick up the young chicks. gaaah
Is it labeled dough boy for fat fuckers?
Another wonderful aroma from years ago was high-octane leaded gasoline.
Mimeograph was pretty good, but what gave me a real nose boner was the perfume of a stack of blue-purple Ditto copied papers.
I hesitate to admit it, but I have no idea what Play-Doh smells like. I’ve never been near the stuff.
Jethro I got a new cap gun for Christmas last year with 2400 rounds, scares the cats and the raccoons,I forgot a canvas tent in the hot sun and the smell of fir trees and the lake.
@Geoff C. –High capacity cap gun would probably be illegal in CT, plus PETA would also be after you. Crazy times!
…I got a new cap gun for Christmas last year with 2400 rounds, scares the cats and the raccoons,…
Petrichor, that rain on hot concrete smell, is already an after shave.
I’m partial to 114 octain fuel with a little RedLine oil mixed in,it’s even better after burning.
