Here’s Why Californians Pay Way More For Gasoline Than Everyone Else

Daily Caller: The price of a gallon of gas costs dramatically more in California than in the rest of the country for a variety of reasons, but government meddling, rising house costs and steep taxes are playing a significant role.

Republicans are threatening to turn a recently passed gas tax increase into a millstone to wrap around the necks of vulnerable Democrats. Years of tax increases, pricey fees and a lack of infrastructure in California could provide the pressure required to give those threats some legitimacy.

Former Democratic Gov. Gray Davis of California has experience with such recriminations. He was recalled in 2003 for mishandling the state’s budget and increasing California’s car registration fees — it was only the second such recall election in U.S. history. Actor Arnold Schwarzenegger ultimately won the election November of that same year. read more

  1. With out reading the article, it’s because Ferry Brown and the Nazis Socialist Law Makers want are money. How’d I do? California’s about ready to hit critical mass. it’s getting close. Unfortunately I don’t think it will happen this election cycle. But when it happens, move to California. It’ll be a free state then.

If Hawaii blows up, they will have more of a…problem.

I’m paying close to 2.90/gal. Too much!

What happened to that boom in North Dakota?

And well, pun intended, no fracking in NY state.

  3. Jerry Brown deserves to die a slow painful death listening to “You And I” at 78 speed. He’s a fucking socialist. And has the “Who, me, I’m a dumb shit” act down way to well.

  4. PS, in California are still paying Canada for a gas additive that ended up leaching though gas station tanks. I’m not kidding one bit. It was some winter blend. Toxic shit. Who’s the brain surgeon that negotiated that contract?

  5. Gasoline prices are pretty much the lowest in the nation where I live because probably half the gasoline made in America is made within eighty miles of my home. That and the fact that I get a hefty discount at all Exxon and Mobil stations because I retired from ExxonMobil make my gas purchases reasonable. The higher prices of oil help the economy here in Texas so I never gripe too much about higher prices at the pump. Everyone here can see and feel the improvement in the lives of working people since Obama left the white House. Higher oil prices mean the economy is doing better.

  6. Yeah, CA had advocated use of MTBE to ‘oxygenate’ gasoline and make it burn cleaner, but it leached into the ground and contaminated water supplies. Back in the 90s.
I just paid $4.00 per gallon for premium in CA. Ugh.

  7. Some people work for a living, some people vote for a living. Tragically, great Californians are outnumbered by those who vote for a living. The best California has to offer are voting with their feet. California is about to pass the point of no return. Boys and girls, can we say Calivenezuela?

  8. Article left out the start of the price rise. TREE HUGGER LAWS First passed 57 years ago by Brown – his dad! When I was in college, and the first year after I bought my house(after I came back from the war.) I never paid more than $0.119 a gal! Cal had over 10,000 Wild Caters and over 1,000 independent refineries (5 within 2 mi and 9 within 13 mi) . If you could read a paper and were willing to drive as much as 5 mi. you bought gas a a station fighting a “Gas War”! There were full page adds , usually in the middle of the 1st section; run by stations fighting the war. In Cerritos in 1969 every intersection had at least 2 gas stations. Intersections of major highways had 1 on each corner! 4 gas stations! If you could not read then you paid $0.139 for your gas. I could read, never paid over $0.119 before the Muslim embargo of ’73!

But the TREE HUGGER laws killed ALL the independent refiners but Tosco (FULL DISCLOSURE, I OWNED TOSCO DECADES AGO, STILL DO BUT IT IS CONOCO NOW)! Had Brown not pushed the TRE HUGGER laws, or had the GOP fought (an honest fight – not a fake fight) Brown we’d still be paying less than $1.00!
