President Trump Announces Release Of American Hostage In Venezuela

DC: President Donald Trump announced Saturday that his administration has secured the release of 26-year-old Joshua Holt, a Utah native who has been held in a Venezuelan prison for two years without a trial.

Holt arrived in Venezuela in 2016 to marry a woman he met online, and he was thrown in jail just days after he arrived. His wife, Thamy, after being asked to provide their marriage license, was arrested as his accomplice.

Venezuelan officials claimed that Holt was a spy and that he was stockpiling weapons, but Holt says that his imprisonment was entirely political. more here

  1. In the initial reports, two years ago, he seemed a bit naive to me. Still, that does not justify what happened to him.

That kind of stuff happens all too frequently in Latin America, and it is not confined to socialist dictatorships. Getting foreigners thrown in jail for whatever reason, real or imagined, is a great way to extort money or otherwise profit.

  2. So this guy goes to a shithole country to marry a women he had never met before. That doesn’t justify locking him up, but what the hell was he thinking to begin with? It’s great that he has been freed, but why go to a shithole country in the first place? How much do you want to bet he ends up in another shithole country within 2 years, in some vain attempt to help save the world?

  3. The reunion in the White house was amazing! Our president, Donald Trump, Mia Love, Mike Lee, et.al. deserve so much respect for doing what past administrations either considered an unnecessary task or just were not true humanitarians. This past month we had 3 Americans in tears walking off a flight from North Korea and now a release from communist Venezuela. This is winning, bigly!

Obama got Otto home. He died three days later.
