Eric Alan Cabrera charged with defacing mural honoring veterans

TAH:

The Los Angeles Times reports that Eric Alan Cabrera a twenty-year-old gang member has been charged with defacing a mural in a Mexican-American neighborhood that honored veterans who came from that neighborhood;

In March, Cabrera allegedly tagged graffiti on the exterior wall of La Chiquita Market on Washington Avenue in Santa Ana, which hosts a mural called “Among Heroes.” The mural displays nearly 200 portraits of mostly Latino and Latina U.S. veterans — the majority of whom served during World War II.

Cabrera, who authorities say is a member of the Lopers gang, was also charged with a gang enhancement.  more

  1. I’d be OK with no jail time for the jerk as long as he is required to do adequate community service. Satisfactory service would be to clean up the grounds of Riverside National Cemetery (the closest one to Santa Ana in Orange County) until there is no litter at all anywhere on the 740 acres of hallowed ground. After he’s policed up the whole cemetery, he’d have to go over it again to be sure nobody dropped anything new. And again. And again…

  2. There are ‘third-worlders’ at the Veterans Memorial in DC today who apparently can’t understand the rebus iconography of ‘no wading’, and the older NP police on duty have been cowed into submission (likely by their younger alt-NPS co-workers – like the ones that erected barriers during the shut-down) into not even enforcing that rule.
    So this asshat was caught? Good. Let him have two out of every four weekends for the next six months cleaning it up. ALL of it.
