Massachusetts- GOP rep admits he and colleagues voted for “less” bad gun confiscation bill.

MassGunRights: ATTLEBORO — Local state representatives voted for a bill that allows for a court order to take away the guns of those found to pose “extreme risk” to themselves or others.

The so-called “Red Flag” bill passed the House 139-14 Wednesday with the support of all five local representatives, although Republicans were initially reluctant to back it.

Democratic supporters said the bill was necessary following multiple school shootings in which the killer had previously shown signs of being a danger.

If passed by the Senate and signed by the governor, the law would allow family members to get a court order to take away guns from those demonstrating behavior that indicates they might shoot themselves or others.

State Rep. Betty Poirier, R-North Attleboro, said several amendments that were attached to the bill made it more acceptable.

“We were able to get amendments to make it better. It’s not perfect by any means whatsoever,” she said.  MORE

  1. I despise politicians … repugnican or demonRat … almost every one of them would suck acorns out a squirrel’s butt & feed them to their mothers if they thought it would get them the most votes

  2. The only way to turn the gun grab around is start replacing activist judges with Conservative Constitutional Judges. What don’t these idiot get about “Shall Not Be Infringed”.

  3. Once again, Some things don’t change……….. Of what value?

Of what value are paper constitutions and oaths binding officers to their preservation, if there is not intelligence enough in the people to discern the violations and virtue enough to resist the violators.

We are governed by fools who have no idea of the value of the Constitution or its safe guards.

We are governed by fools who have no idea of the value of the Constitution or its safe guards.

And far too many foolish voters have no idea of the value of the Constitution or its safe guards.

  5. There is a reasonableness to taking guns away from people under certain circumstances.
The most obvious is convicted felons. But, with very strict requirements, we do want to be able to take weapons away from people who have not yet done anything but are likely to, like the Florida school shooter.
So the question then is what about this law makes it a bad one?

  6. The law will be used by Cops to take what they want and let the Courts sort it out. It is illegal for an unmarked cop car to pull a motorist over for an infraction but it has become a regular occurrence… one that Cops know sets precedent. Pretty soon they rendered a good law null and void.
The neighbor who wants you dead and will slander you in the hood, file false police reports, pull restraining orders, and move to adversely possess your property puts every gun owner at risk. In actuality there are no protections for the innocent and once you’re in ‘the system’ everybody thinks only guilty people are in it.
Framing mischief into law is a slippery slope. I think it is a cover-the-butt excuse to say nothing could be done. If Cops wanted it done, it could have been done.
